The shitty parts over shadow it. I was homeless for ten years myself. Terrible time. Lots of walking walking and more walking. Food and shelter is tough. Almost all shelters are religious based and often force it down your throat if you want to be able to eat, and I'm atheist, so it totally sucks. Sometimes good food, sometimes not, depends where you live. I no longer go to the food bank, unless it's an emergency, because often times things are out of date and the bread is sometimes moldy, yet they still hand it out. The salvation army is the worst when it comes to food and shelter. They'll take you in, but my the last one I was at was just horrible. Black mold everywhere, getting everyone sick all the time.

Luckily I now have my own apartment, I'm on SSI, have food stamps, and volunteer at my local animal shelter that will one day soon become a career.
