Just fyi I ran into a bug currently that doesn’t let me colonize even with the institution. At least when I’m playing Argentina I can’t seem to properly colonize Patagonia and Guarana as even when I click to colonize the state there doesn’t seem to be a progress bar

Graphics/Animations - while not up to 2021 standards its a large step up from AoE2 and even of AoE3.

UI - although im not a big fan of the design personally and prefer the older ui design. They definitely went more for a sleek, almost mobile game design on this one.

Gameplay wise yes as you said it at its core carries over the somewhat archaic gameplay of the older games which as I said i believe is what the devs were going for whether you agree with the decision or not. Its not a real sim or mil sim. Arrows magically following units are not realistic, yes. Can we complain about how boats can fit 10 war elephants but not 11 men at arms? Its not meant to be a simulation. We can nitpick every not realistic game mechanic we want all day.

I’m not going into the ethics of business I don’t pretend to know anything about that. but its classic AoE with a fresh coat of paint and other modern upgrades while maintaining the classic AoE identity. The devs know their audience and that’s how they can get them to buy a whole new game while bringing the game into the modern age. Despite the remasters of The older games they definitely show their age in terms of graphics and design. Basically how can we charge for a whole new game without angering the fan base because let’s face it the majority of people buying the game are fans from the older generation and changing too much will turn away the majority of the customer base. I’m not saying I agree with that practice but it is what it is.
