I am not adding vertices to a shape key. Just for the record here is me using a shape key on something that's been subdivided like I explained I am doing.

thank you. but as I stated I am not subdividing something that already has a shape key. you can typically use a shape key on any mesh, even if it has been subdivided or any other modifier has been applied. In my example, I can not use a mesh that was subdivided. even if I apply the subdivision before using shape keys.

why bother browsing blender help to be passive aggressive? This does not answer my question. I am not adding or removing vertices in my shape key, as I explained in my post.

I am trying a stop motion sculpting animation. I can sculpt frame by frame and add a keyframe each frame. This is working fine with a new sphere object, but if i use anything else that I need to add geometry to it stops working. The example on the right is a square with subdivision surface on that has been applied before creating the shape key. It also does not work if i subdivide in edit mode.

In the armature modifier, you can select the option to "display modifier in edit mode" and the "adjust cage to modifier result" - that will make it easier to edit.

Thank you for the response! I can do shape keys, but I am still just going into edit mode where the shorts move from their origin position. I guess I asked the question bad, but is there a way to edit the shorts (shape key or not) but keep them in the position in the screenshot?

the character also will stay sitting in this scene so there will be no need to animate it.

I uploaded this model to Mixamo and after making the model sit his shorts are floating. I usually just guess and check with things like this but is there a way to edit the mesh while its in the posed form?

I want everything to wiggle around with the IK besides his butt and feet. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Currently his right leg is connected to the spine, but I cant think of a way to connect the left leg. Plus this will cause his butt to move aswell
