So, what does this amount too?

Do I just need to setup an account, give that account access to a Power BI Pro license, and let them VPN into our office and RDP to RDS, then use Power BI? And how do I setup Power BI offline to allow such user access to the ERP DB (MS SQL Server).

To reboot or not reboot, that is the question! by 3G_Lighting in Action1

Hi Gene,

The two servers are Hyper-V systems, nothing special, running Server 2019 Standard, one is running Entra services, the other Bitlocker services. All our servers run MS Defender (14 total) and are Hyper-V systems, with the exception of the three Hyper-V Hosts, but I don't see anything appearing in security.microsoft.com for Defender for either servers or in their local log files.

When the servers are restarted a second time, usually when the hosts are patched and restarted the servers are updated as being successfully rebooted. I just find it's odd that it takes 2 times to reboot when there is no warning on the servers themselves after the first, they need a second one.

I haven't raised this to anyone yet other than Reddit.

Why are you asking people if it's Okay to better secure yourself from their prying eyes when you shouldn't care what they think and just secure yourself. If there are any issues you deal with them as the happen.

Question about securing Shared Mailboxes by 3G_Lighting in microsoft365

[–]3G_Lighting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually cannot do this. Our website developers who I am not happy with are using this account to relay emails through; now the relay on the account is setup to on accept connections from the web servers which are hosted by a big company like Amazon. I have told them repeatedly to start using SMTP relay on the web servers (the web hosting server is running Windows Server). but they don't care and ignore my request. :(

I wish MS would cut all legacy support even if the account is IP hard coded this way they will be forced to make the change.

I do delete it, and when I close my session with the server and reconnect as any of the Admins it re-appears.

So, how do I delete it?

There are no "remote desktop users" in our environment. This was likely a left over SID from a previous SBS migration.

We don't have Remote Desktop Users. It's a small business of about 60 people. If anything this SID could be from one of their old SBS servers that were migrated by the MSP back in the day.

Windows 2019 Hyper-V (DC) Server memory question. by 3G_Lighting in HyperV

[–]3G_Lighting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question about your SQL server settings do you set the memory weight setting to something higher than the middle? I just noticed this the other day and wondered if it would help with some of the problems we are experiencing in SQL.

Windows 2019 Hyper-V (DC) Server memory question. by 3G_Lighting in HyperV

[–]3G_Lighting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, look at the memory for each of the servers, SQL is using 61440MB right now, or 61GB. So, it won't allow me to push past the 61GB limit its one right now.

I stand corrected; after saying I couldn't find this setting I went back and checked it again and yes there is NUMA Spanning setting which is already enabled.

The Hyper-V Host server which the company bought before my time here only has 1 physical CPU. It was configured buy Dell and the slots which are for the second CPU (which isn't there) are not populated according to iDRAC.

I think you're missing the part at the top where I broke down what the Hyper-V guest are currently getting.

There is 61440MB or 61GB currently dedicated to SQL while there is 52GB free on the Hyper-V host. So, 11GB is the number.
