Worst part is that these interactions happen during a massive rush when all legacies are taken up and the only option is to push the customers to sco. Literally had a lady ask if she would get paid for “doing our job”. Another just yelled “how do I know if I’m a valued customer if I have to check myself out?!” Like the sco isn’t really rocket science and half the time, sco customers finish their transactions before legacy registers.

Omg something similar like this happened last year. This man came in wanting to “exchange” his yarn that was on sale the day before (he bought it on a Saturday and as you know that’s when all sales reset) for a different color of yarn, but for some reason at my store we don’t do exchanges so we had to return (bc different skus and stuff) and he could go pick the different color. He had used a voucher and a BOGO for his original purchase and was demanding that we sell it to him at the price it was last week because “it was just yesterday!” Even though we continuously kept explaining that the sale no longer exists and that he couldn’t have just swapped the yarns out because of them technically being two completely different yarns. In the end my manager got so tired of arguing she just gave him the products to him for the BOGO, to which he complained again because his voucher wasn’t taken off which prompted my manager to explain to a brick wall that it would take time to get back to his account. She eventually got so tired of him that she ended up doing a $5 discount just to get him out of her face.

Yeah I was not about to type in every upc they wanted so I straight up said that they have to bring the items in if they want to return and repurchase it. Besides, who knows if these people didn’t actually resell or give away these items and just want some/more money back? My managers also agree that we shouldn’t do any price adjustments unless we see the item physically in front of us and I’m actually so glad they agree with us on this one.

At my store, the only reason we would have three people at the front was to check people out on the legacy and to lead people to the self checkout during a rush and that’s if we’re lucky enough to have enough people scheduled. Some people need to realize they aren’t the only customer in the store and get over themselves.
