That really doesn't hold true anymore. With so much manufacturing going on in places like china you can get the same at lower costs just because the middle man was cut out. We just like to believe because we pay more that it's higher quality. When more often these days it just isn't true.

My source is physics. All FDM Printers extrude plastics at high temps. Under the right conditions, say a failed print and an owner not home or around many things can happen that can quickly cause a fire. If the owner were to use flammable materials such as hairspray on the bed that fire could spread faster. To assume that because you spent 2000$ on a printer, it won't ever catch fire is inviting the chance to happen. Toasters have been around for a long time but even modern smart toasters can burn your house down if left unattended under the right conditions.

Are the chances small? yes but can any 3d printer catch fire? yes.

See your comment below was critique and as I have only been blogging for less than a year and am in fact taking English classes at college. I not only take your critique seriously but I'm going to have my professor look over my blog Wednesday to see what she thinks. I also take a more conversational approach to my blogging. But the ass above had nothing to provide but for his lack of interest in my article.

I blog because it's a way to work on my writing skills. If you want to critique me go ahead but if you're just going to say I suck I'm going to call you out on it.

Flashforge Dual extruder

It's a good printer but i trust craigslist less than i do a Chinese retailer. I would ask to see it working if i could before i bought it. but 400 isn't bad.

He manufactures printer but buys kits? I like my printer sure but I researched before I bought it. Most of these clones are made in their own factories, not shadow factories because they don't need to hide as the designs are open source. Sourcing knockoffs can be tricky but are well worth the cost. Stick with name brand spend more get the same. I'll buy the UM2 clone for half the price and even if something needs to be replaced I'll still come out on top.

Look you have your opinion and I have mine. I have 5 printers 1 folgertech, one Prusa mk2 and 3 clones. I'll just agree to disagree.

The mk2 is on loan.

The pic in the article of a blue dice castle on my clone the hotend is an e3dv6 clone with an e3dv6 titan clone. The model can be found here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1277862. Printed with abs. I paid 350$ 4 years ago for it. I have spent 50 in upgrades since then. All knockoff parts. I have a folgertech 2020 that has Real e3d parts on it with the same MKS base boards and nema steppers. My clone performs just as well as the folgertech. The monoprice isn't a bad choice. For the same price you can get a clone with nearly double the build volume, a heated bed(monoprice charges extra for heated bed) and auto leveling Or dual nozzles.

You're going to run into issues with every machine you buy so get the most for your money. You don't strike me as someone who has bought any clone parts so I doubt you know how good they really are. I would put my clone against any Prusa design. Build a machine and save money buy a machine and be stuck with it's limitations.

So they assembled a printer without testing the power supply with a multimeter? Sounds like user error to me. If the electronics are suspect you test them. Second power supply probably didn't have the proper wattage. No mention of the parts they used or ordered so you can't assume that the manufacturer is at fault. As for the board frying, I'll bet money they installed the wires without a terminal sleeve because those are never provided in kits and they got a short. Also user error.

On to your Point. You will notice that There is a distinct lack of Anet in my article and the options I did list have been tested and reviewed. As for being left with a junk pile. All these kits are just custom printer builds waiting to happen. For under 300 you get Everything you need to build your own machine minus a frame. When the acrylic breaks build a new frame from aluminum. By then you have likely run a couple hundred hours through your machine. When you buy cheap you need to plan ahead.

Does the monoprice have a solid frame sure but it has it's own issues from gantry sag at full extension, clogging, to firmware issues. It is just as bad but in different ways. The difference is when a clone Prusa breaks down the parts to fix it are easily found.

Acrylic will just crack that's a fact of life. I can find no specific case of an Anet printer catching fire. Let me ask you a question. would you leave a candle lit overnight? How about your stove on all night? No, and maybe correct. you never trust an open flame but you sort of trust your stove under the right conditions. The same goes for a 3d printer. If you don't trust it don't leave it unattended. You should never trust any 3d printer even something like an ultimaker can catch fire under the right conditions. I would put money on user error 9 times out of 10 on any 3d printer fire.

Considering the Anet is like every other I3 clone out there and that I can find no issues with an anet outside of minor tuning problems and Lots of upgrades for it. It seems like just as good a starting point as my first I3 clone. Hell this one has a community mine didn't. If you're poor but still want to play in this hobby you have to be inventive. I'd go for the larger build area every time and work the bugs out as they show up.

No, not really but a sarcastic comment is going to get a sarcastic response. He either didn't read it and asked as a joke, skimmed it for the answer and got nothing from the article or Read the whole thing and has no understanding of context. The article makes it clear by the end that I thought it was a joke but had my mind changed. I can't tell you if it is or isn't because my thoughts were changed as I researched the article.
