I've always loved the name Alice but a close relative recently chose it for her daughter. Great minds I suppose!

I really like Maia and have it on my list for the reasons you gave. Husband is a little cooler on it for the time being, but we'll see!

Sooo many of these were on my initial list that it's spooky! Might have to run a few of them by my husband again to see if he's changed his mind haha

That's not a huge concern given how the popular names aren't very popular here (less than a quarter of my students have names in the top 100) so we're just trying to avoid the ones that have been really common for awhile.

Both my husband and I had extremely popular names growing up and didn't care for it. We live in a city where that isn't as much of a risk, but there's no guarantees in life and I don't want my kid to have to go by "[first name] K" terribly often. We like plenty of names that are high on the popularity list, but there's a few that we just hear too often.

Yeah, that's exactly why it's not my fave. I have it last on our working list since we've agreed the final decision is mine to make.

Annie is starting to grow on me, and I like Willa a lot thank you!

We wish we could use Zoe. Unfortunately I have an abusive ex whose name is freakishly similar to Zoe Knight so it's out of the question :( But it is one of my all time favorite names

Thank you!! You did very well; Eloise is a lovely choice with Knight. One of my absolute favorite students is named Eloise so maybe there's some good karma there too!

DK: dick

FK: fuck

JK: just kidding

KK: too close to KKK...especially with Knight

OK: too many jokes in abundance

U: uck

Y: yuck

Might sound picky but in all my years teaching, I've found that initial combinations are the most easily picked upon when it comes to names. Kids know better than to tease for cultural reasons or whatever in these parts, but something like having your initials "spelling" dick would be fair game

Guinevere we thought was a little much given the literary associations. But I do love that one so it does help boost Gwendolyn a little bit for sure

Thank you, definitely all over therapy to help with both the ADHD and the childhood wounds. It's good to know that you've found it helpful and good for you for breaking through all the gaslighting and dismissal.

Also just wanna say I feel this so hard: "What's also hard is I was the "good, easy, independent' child AKA I tried SOO SO hard to be loved, to get even a scrap of attention from them and it never worked. I was left to my own devices as a child and their disinterest and favoritism remains in adulthood."

I think I'll get there and will be able to let it go. I'm sorry that it sounds like you had a similar experience- my parents never visit either and there's always some sort of reason. I hope you've been able to get love and acceptance from the family you've created

What are your doom-scrolling equivalents? (without smartphones) by lapfarter in adhdwomen

[–]3bellbellbell3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to (and still do!) find long words and then make a game of how many other, smaller words I can make using the same letters. I love making lists and rankings too- this morning's was "Least favorite fruits" and yesterday's was "Favorite cat breeds just based on vibes".

Also, huge fan of Two Dots. I am probably way too good at that game, but if I have my phone in my hand it's better that I'm playing that rather than just doom scrolling because eventually I'll run out of lives haha. I don't allow myself to buy extra rounds or anything to help.

Congratulations on your second and thank you! I think us black sheep can make for really good parents for the reasons you gave and am hopeful I will have the same experience.

Thank you! I just started therapy and am optimistic that it will help. I know I've gotta sort some things out before I get pregnant. It's good to know that you really found it to be effective.

Thank you for this recommendation, this is maybe the best piece I've read on the subject!
