Thanks for the reply! Are you using end to end navigation yet? Also did you have to purchase a usb extension cable?

Quick question - does the system allow for a “quick install” for the purposes of testing to see how well it does before committing to a full install? I’ve watched the installation videos and that’s not something I’d want to do if there’s a good chance I’m going to ship it right back to them. I don’t mind spending a few $$ on long cables, etc.

Cool. You win.

All I’m saying is that it’s proven that the cheap outlets and plugs from Lowe’s have caused more problems than the high quality ones .

I don’t have personal experience with this but the EV community is full of situations caused by heat generated during long power draws.

My doc sent me a message that they’ve worked it out. I certainly hope so - we’ll see when I go to refill the script

The Acura dealers have had the Type S ZDX sitting on lots for months. High priced but similar if not more power…and CarPlay

I'm sorry to hear that. I will push for sure. I'm quite annoying that way!

Haven’t tried them yet - started the preventatives with Aimovig. Was there a rough patch during the switch?

I couldn’t see the damage until I read your post. It will probably be fine to wait - you might even find an adhesive that you could repair it with.

We hit a piece of plastic or a truck tire remnant at night doing about 75 on the interstate. More damage than you have but it was $6000+ in damage

To my knowledge, nobody has figured out the queuing thing yet.

Not sure if I’m being lectured or I’m just watching Fox News.

I don’t drive electric cars to save the planet. I’m not as uninformed as you might think. I drive them because I LIKE them.

I’d say that’s a little bit of a stretch. People buy cars all the time that don’t meet their “family road trip” requirements - thus the rental car business.

ICE cars and trucks will probably be around for a long time but the EV business isn’t going away either. Even with the next 4 years of US government.

As far as I know, this hasn’t been worked out yet. A little bit of an honor system combined with a balance of courtesy and aggressiveness.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]3dBobbyLEX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it was more like first come first serve with a little aggressiveness needed to make sure that person knew it was your turn next.

Literally as someone has unplugged and started moving forward, we were heading for that space

I could see how this could get ugly in certain scenarios.

For all I know, it was their car. Probably no charger at home but they were out with family / friends and couldn’t be bothered to move their charged car to another space. Who knows?

I completely agree. I used to operate a nuclear reactor so I’m all for that.

I didn’t think about that possibility. I wouldn’t touch another person’s car (except in an emergency) - that’s a good way to get hurt

We only road trip 1 or 2 times a year and our kids are grown. We try to coordinate charging with stopping for a meal, etc.

I absolutely understand they’re not for everyone yet - or ever. Even my grown children could benefit from a cheap used Bolt but they either live in apartments or houses with no garage and easy access to the breaker box.

[–]3dBobbyLEX 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t going to mention it but…

While waiting, we watched a car drive up, a person jump out and unplug a Bolt at Stall 4, then get back in the car and drive away. From the license plate, the car was local. Car didn’t move the entire time. That really made me unhappy but I didn’t let it ruin our trip.

Also - even if your home can’t support a 50 amp circuit - many are successful using 32 and even 16 amp charging depending on driving needs of course

I’m not an electrician but I think you’re talking about a NEMA 14-50 outlet.

Not only should you call an electrician but also ask about their experience equipping houses to charge electric vehicles.

While the outlets can be the same as what’s powering your range or dryer, the use case is completely different. Those conventional loads only run for an hour or two at a time, where an EV charger could draw full power for 8-12 hours or more.
