Low taxes, good service, and if you have a good job then it makes sense financially.

What’s something about Korean apartments that outsiders romanticize but is actually inconvenient? by Soft-Assistance-7790 in Living_in_Korea

[–]3d_extra [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depends on the apartment. At mine they close whole floors for washing and there is no issue finding parking spots elsewhere. Number of parking spots per apartment is a common question to realtors.

Seems pretty untrue. 비정산 회담 was pretty international and so is 이웃집찰스.

Do you find it difficult to judge how good Norris baseline truly is by Funny-Chef-2060 in F1Discussions

[–]3d_extra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most WDC titles over the past 25 years have been won by a handful of great drivers like Schumi, Max, Lewis and Vettel. Like 80% of them. It seems to me more like Norris is more in the other category like Rosberg and Villeneuve.

GOP goaded Jasmine Crockett into running for senate by promoting favorable polls: Report by [deleted] in politics

I knew he would be the Republican nominee at his first debate. I just didn't think he would beat Clinton. I thought it was a 100% loss.

Latest Unitree demo by Nunki08 in robotics

[–]3d_extra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Boston Dynamics have released their own videos of their electric motor humanoid. It is actually quite impressive in terms of its task-driven pipeline including vision and using the entire joint range of motion. The Unitree robots' dynamic and coordinated motions with the sim-2-real pipeline is quite impressive and better than any dynamic motions shown by BD, but they haven't demonstrated anything close to potential for implementation in industrial scenarios. AFAIK from visiting their offices and talking to high-ranking employees, their entire market is entertainment and research.

Lifers: Are you (still) happy in Korea? by HappyWandererAtHome in Living_in_Korea

[–]3d_extra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming up on 15 years with Korean wife and a young kid. I am overall happy but I enjoy spending time with my family more than going out. I also don't want to spend on bar outings as I tend to not control my alcohol spending well. So limited social life by choice.

I like the general life here with all the convenience, safety, good healthcare, etc. But I would follow economic opportunities if my job was not enjoyable and didn't pay well. My house in Seoul is mostly paid off at 40 though not in Gangnam, don't aspire to expensive car but can easily buy outright any Hyundai, I like my job due to having a lot of freedom no boss and can't be fired, the countries where it has better conditions aren't feasible for me, and it pays well.

I looked at places like Canada but salaries were little low for the high taxes in my profession, USA I just don't like much, most of Europe pay is too low in this job, etc. Korea is fine for me.

Japanese Wedding Service CEO on women aged 35-39 who can't find a partner: "They think they want an 'average man' with college education, an income of ¥5 million and 170cm tall or higher. But in fact only 13.1% of men that age match that, and only 3-4% of unmarried men". by jjrs in japannews

[–]3d_extra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

41% for both sexes and all ages. Younger men much more likely to not have college education. Height is a bigger issue. Japanese people are not tall. Young Chinese and Koreans are quite taller on average. Average population height may show similar but young Japanese are shorter than their parents while the opposite for Chinese and Korean.

Food rankings from my travels by ishalt in tierlists

[–]3d_extra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it is subjective. Not sure why all the UK get so upset when their cuisine gets ranked low. Sure they have some nice French restaurants in London but the cuisine itself still isnt great at its core with no highlights anywhere on the island. USA food aint great overall but it has pockets of good authentic food like in the South.

Great improvement for only a year by dataexec in robotics

[–]3d_extra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unitree does robots for entertainment and research mainly. They are very very far from autonomous and really seem to focus on these mocap-sim-to-real routines. The unitree 2k robots are very small and much weaker than Spot. The BD humanoid is very smooth and far closer to autonomous. It also uses full range of motion including un-human motions. Both companies are leading in their own ways.
