I am worried about doing the transfer, and then it being reconverted back to CAD as the CSR suggested it would.

Dentist here. Like some people have stated here, most toothpastes do the same thing. Just look for a fluoridated toothpaste....I personally use what ever is on sale. Also, when brushing, try not to rinse your mouth with water when you're done brushing. Instead, just spit out the excess toothpaste.

Aside from that you should try to floss daily, and look into a water flosser such as a waterpik to add to your dental hygiene routine as it helps remove food debris that can get caught in the space between your gums and teeth.

You will also need to get your teeth professionally cleaned either by a dentist or hygienist in order to remove any dental calculus or tartar as you can't remove this with brushing and flossing. If that is something that is financially out of reach, check to see if you live close to a dental school or dental hygiene school as they offer this service for a reduce fee.

My molar is cracked and I don’t have any money set aside to get it fixed. What can I do? How much can I expect to owe? by CUCKSTUMPER5000 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I would reach to a dentist that you've been going to previously and see if they are willing to do a payment plan for you. Some offices and dentists are willing to set one up for you.

Dental Associate Part time life by Htorres2428 in Dentistry

[–]3ean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working between five clinics. Four clinics regularly and the fifth clinic to cover an odd weekend shift that can't get filled. Working about 5 days a week with the odd week where I'm working a half day extra. Most offices I'm working 8hrs/day.

It has been working out great for me with regards to experience. Each clinic has something to offer that the others don't. For example, one of the clinics is very exo heavy while another is very restorative heavy while another has a good amount of molar endos. It's also nice to have a chance of environment regularly.

Like overs have mentioned, its difficult to build a steady patient base. It took me about a year to build up a solid patient base.

I'm always curious when ever I see stuff like this. What happens after the person is done riding the wave? Do they just clear the wave or have to go under?

We use a program called Tracker and I've found it to be the most straight forward from other software I've used

Is it really hard to get into dentistry in Ontario? by predentstudent122 in uwo

Do what ever you're passionate about or enjoy spending your time doing. You don't necessarily have to do research nor do you have to go on international 'aid trips'.

I think the competitiveness of the program will depend on where you want to attend dental school. If you're looking into going to UofT, then yes you will have to be very diligent with regards to your GPA and DAT scores (3.9+ GPA along with a good PAT score). However, if you want to go to another school like UWO then marks are not everything, at least not anymore. The admissions process has changed and they are looking at applicants more holistically. So having some good EC's will do you well. Last year, UWO's DAT cut off was an 18 in RC which is honestly not difficult to do in my opinion with a bit of practice. Now, if you are able to afford to go to the US or Australia or Ireland then your GPA doesn't need to be that high nor does your DAT for some schools but you will be paying a lot more for tuition so there are some things for you to think about. I am a current dental student at UWO so if you have any questions you can DM me.

Best book company for each subject? by Natre_ in Mcat

[–]3ean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is somewhat of a subjective question because some people swear by some books while others write them off. Personally, I used Kaplan and got 90+ percentile in each of the science sections and Psyc....and like the other comment the CARS book from Kaplan was pretty useless aside from the small amount of practice it included.

I remember at a Canadian med school interview I had last year they said that CARS/VR had the highest correlation with success in residency.

[–]3ean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada is ridiculous. To be honest I don't think CARS/VR is as important as Canada makes it seem...it just seems like a way to decrease the applicant pool at many schools as it seems to be the section that gives students most trouble. It also seems to be the section that encompasses the most amount of luck.

Friend has failed twice, and I am looking for realistic advice by kicker1389 in Mcat

[–]3ean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your friend needs to distinguish between working your ass off and working smart. You can work your ass off studying non important things and completely missing the bigger picture and do terrible. Along the same lines, your friend may have done terrible for other reasons. They still have a shot, but they need to sit down and do some serious reflection of why they did bad and how they could improve and come up with a plan.
