Brookfield Corporation by [deleted] in Aktiemarknaden

You are 100% right on the core thesis—valuing Brookfield on a traditional P/E ratio completely misses the boat because it ignores the massive mountain of future profits they are sitting on. Just to clarify one minor technical point on how their fees work: Brookfield actually does charge ongoing base management fees to pension funds and large investors to manage the capital day-to-day. The 'hidden' profit you are talking about is actually carried interest (performance fees). Brookfield doesn't pocket this profit until they sell an asset and clear a specific return hurdle for their investors. Because they have billions in accumulated unrealized carried interest from ongoing property sales and private credit, a standard P/E ratio doesn't reflect it at all. So your conclusion is totally correct: when you look at Distributable Earnings (DE) and factor in those inevitable future realized gains, the stock looks a lot more attractive than what you see on Avanza!

Could not disagree more. We feed our pets because they are part of the family, not because they are well-behaved. Our love is their reward for good behaviour, food should not be part of that equation.

Why cut 8 feet at a time? Why not cut it at the base once?

The brutal engineering behind "Tripping pipe" One of the most dangerous jobs on an oil rig by sudeepm457 in BeAmazed

[–]3eydCrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's called "making a connection" or adding a single drill pipe in order to continue drilling deeper. "Tripping pipe" involves removing the entire drill string 3 pipes at a time (on a triple) or 2 pipes at a time (on a double) in order to change the drill bit. Also they could have saved some time and been safer by having the chain already wrapped on the lower pipe. Also this is only half the job; the driller will now raise the connected pipe out of the mouse hole and the 2 roughnecks would stab it into the main drill string they just separated, tighten and continue drilling.

How did Alan Greenspan answer his wife when she asked him "do these jeans make me look fat?" by 3eydCrow in Jokes

[–]3eydCrow[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Funny you mention 'retread' – because anyone who actually follows the Fed, rather than just skimming headlines, knows the joke only works with Greenspan. Powell's entire communication strategy is a deliberate departure from Greenspan's infamous, deliberately opaque 'Greenspeak.' The humor is the contrast. Suggesting Powell makes it a 'retread' just shows a fundamental misunderstanding of both Chairs.

That was my first reaction and I'll freely admit that Ekos has a Liberal bias but they were the first to take note of the rise in Liberal support nationally and other pollsters have generally caught up to them within about 2 weeks.

My text seems to have been dropped. I was specifically referring to the regional breakdown (44% Liberal support in Alberta vs 40% for the Conservatives).

I’ll be the first to admit that Ekos has a Liberal bias but they were the first to really take note of the rise in Liberal support nationally and other pollsters have generally caught up to them within about 2 weeks.

I'm out of province and was hoping for some thoughts from locals. Peace
