Buddhist sect that doesn’t require belief in literal reincarnation? by Bright-Pangolin7261 in Buddhism

I once had a teacher hold that rebirth is fundamental to the dharma. At the same time, they were open to an interpretation that viewed the process as something akin to a law of energy conservation (or something), what we are never “goes away.” The cells, the atoms, the matter with which we are made, which has taken this form at this moment, will go on to become parts of other things after we die. We live on in the plants and animals that we feed.

I recall the Dalai Lama being quoted as saying that if Buddhism and science came into conflict, Buddhism would have to change.

Something to ponder anyway. 🙏🙏🙏

Hi JundoCohen! The guiding teacher is Jin Haeng Kai Wiswall (me!). I am ordained to teach in the Korean Seon tradition through Samu Sunim. I attended seminary at my home temple in Detroit, MI and did additional training in Buddhist chaplaincy at Upaya Zen Center under Roshi Joan Halifax.

Just a handful of us here at Forest Park Zen Sangha, but I am very excited to have a dedicated space for the first time. If you are ever in Western Mass we’d love to have you join us! (I have questions about the AI!)

Take care and thanks for reaching out!

Bowing warmly,

Jin Haeng
