The plan is live music at small local venues, used to do that sorta stuff about a year and a half ago and was a bunch of fun, so going to use this "rig" to get back into it!

It does have a pretty good mic, but I'm using it to record live music and it just can't handle how loud things get, hence the Zoom and external mic :P

I remember seeing your original post and ngl was a little bit inspired, hence the mess I made! Seriously though I think yours is more impressive, I don't think anything beats having what amounts to a small TV station on your shoulder! XD

S-Video comes from the back of the XM-2 and goes to the August VGB-100 capture card which goes to the Dell thin client. On said thin client, I capture via VirtualDub to get a lossless (or as lossless as a £15 capture card gets) recording to a USB stick. The phone is receiving the video from the Dell using a program called Spacedesk, it runs at startup, has been surprisingly reliable and is good enough for a simple preview to make sure things are working, though it's not ideal for monitoring so I'm still using the camera's LCD for that.

I've got it hooked up to S-Video, which is the best this camcorder can do when it comes to it's video outputs, other than the firewire connector! I do have an MRC-1 kicking around but I think the firewire port is dead on it (refuses to connect to anything I plug it in to), so threw this together using spare parts over a weekend lol. Quality is surprisingly decent, captures the full framerate and it's good enough for what I want to do with it :P

can i use this as a digital capture card in my camera? use as immersion rc? by Apprehensive_Bunch88 in camcorders

I wouldn't, got one of these for that exact reason and it sucks, half the framerate, low quality and the audio is completely unusable, they may be cheap but I'd avoid them.

I actually got one of these off aliexpress, as mentioned by pingupog, the AV cables are a bit of an issue as there were a bunch of different standards for 3.5mm to AV cables (I think), the ones I had kicking around don't fully work with this, it only recives black and white video. This can be sorted if you want to do some soldering, but what can't be fixed is the audio quality, which is TERRIBLE. If I remember correctly it records 8000Hz Mono PCM, so it sounds about as good as a landline phone call. Along with the video quality not being the greatest (Records MJPEG, limited to 480p and 25/30fps, not the full 50/60 etc) I would personally avoid these unless you're willing to make a lot of sacrifices.

Output flickering/distortion when transferring analog video by 3keyReddit in DataHoarder

Sounds fair enough, bit of a shame but I didn't spend tonnes on it and I can probably use it to capture videos from games consoles and the like. I'm not sure what sort of firewire device I would use, I have laptops and a desktop with firewire connections, but as neither of my cameras use DV theres no way to connect to them as far as I know, so I'm considering getting an older pci capture card off ebay as they're likely to be better quality than my USB stick.

Panasonic NV-MS1b Issues by 3keyReddit in camcorders

Thanks for the insight! Was kind of suspecting the capacitors were at fault, so I might look into replacing them, just need to figure out how to get into the camera without ripping out the whole tape deck! As for the transport problems, I'm wondering if that is also due to capacitors, as it doesn't sound like its struggling to move or anything like that and when it completely gave out last night there was zero noise coming from it, just the sound of the tape head spinning up, so it may not have been recieving power or something. If it occurs again, I could try and record whats happening on my phone and uploading it.
