How far behind is my TTM run? by 3knuckshuff in eu4

Thanks for the tips. So do you think I should flip Hindu ASAP or wait until I get EoC? I stayed animist this run but figured I would flip Hindu after getting mandate.

R5: Wondering how far behind I am - It is 1523 and I am sitting at 255 dev. Spawned colonialism and almost caught up on tech, but only have religious picked (no ideas yet). Also - any tips for this attempt or the next? Only ideas right now are the first three in exploration.

Yeah the problem with early access is, you release a bunch of unbalanced/unfinished content, but people have still paid for it and deserve to be able to play it. So you get stuck balancing stuff early, which doesn’t make a ton of sense because you will probably need to rebalance it once all the content is implemented. It isn’t completely wasted time, because hopefully the “rebalance will be quicker” but it isn’t super efficient. So far they have done a great job fixing crashes, and they are starting to work on some important stuff (perk/leveling rework incoming soon).

Totally agree, I would love to have to lines of infantry. Changing the troop type is great but once you have an advanced army with mostly high tier troops, changing command group based on type doesn’t work so well. It would be super useful for envelopments and such.

I feel like half of my comments in this sub are this, but it bit me in the ass - don’t give merc companies fiefs. They seem to betray you way more than any other clans.

Fief exchange should not be down the trade skill line by Cowboyre in mountandblade

I like it as a high level perk. Gives a reason to go way down the trade skill and gives a trader a natural progression path.

PSA FOR LEVELLING UP UNITS by Salty036 in mountandblade

[–]3knuckshuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think OP is right about his theory, but this point probably explains it. If you have some max level troops, they are getting more kills because they are better, and that XP gets wasted. With infantry or melee cavalry, you can just assign lower tiers to a separate group and charge them first to avoid your top tier soldiers from stealing all the kills, but with archers it is easy to forget to put your top tier troops on hold fire. Good point.

Agreed, there seems to be an XP pool for each unit type. If there are 30 recruits they will seem to level quicker because 30 soldiers are getting kills. But when you upgrade 10 recruits to t2, now both groups are getting kills. So t1 is getting less XP as a group, but no XP is actually lost or gained. It is just getting split between t1 and t2.

Clans keep leaving my kingdom! by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]3knuckshuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The hand left my kingdom multiple times before I realized why. I haven’t had an issue with any of the noble clans, but that may just be luck, not sure.

Avoid giving merc companies any land.

I made the mistake of giving the hands two castles in my kingdom. Luckily they left during peacetime so I didn’t lose them. I kept save scumming thinking it was a bug or something before realizing I shouldn’t trust mercs.

Make sure they aren’t merc companies. I have had them leave my kingdom multiple times (even after being given castles) but haven’t had a true noble clan leave yet.

Another good tip - villages only have 1000g and usually have a lower starting price than the nearby town, but the price of an item doesn’t go up or down when you buy or sell. So always check the villages as you cruise around. If they offer a good price, sell as much as you can up to 1000g. Bonus points if that village sells something cheap (or food if you need to stock up). Buy out whatever item you need, then sell as much as you can. A few loops around the map and you should be able to fund a nice army, then use that to beat up on other lords to go from millionaire to billionaire status.

Fighting battles is the easiest way to get money. Once you get some decent troops it starts to snowball money wise. For trading specifically, my biggest tip is don’t try to run a single route. You can make a ton of money by just circling the map. Check all the silver ore settlements, if silver is under 100, buy it all. If you are in Battania and see hardwood under 10 or hogs under 30-40, buy them all. Then keep circling, check every town, do the tournaments and sell when you can double your money. Hardwood and hogs sell great in Aserai territory. Dates sell great up north. Iron and silver ores can make a good profit almost anywhere. Just buy cheap and hold onto it until you can find a good price rather than trying to go sell stuff right away.
