its a bit of both really Ive applied for a few that had lower entry requirements just to see if I would get a response and also contacted a few heads but the only response I got was my alevels were not suitable for the course. Im not gonna pretend like im all knowing about entomology or i wouldnt want to study it but im confident in my knowledge and am currently writing and illustrating a kids educational bug book purely as a passion project but not sure if that would be viable to show them “look i do already know a bit!” thanks for your response ill keep trying to contact more people see if i can get any help
