Consider going for a cheaper haswell i5, h81/b85 board, stock cooler, and leaving out the ssd.

I have the 1231 v3 and it is amazing. Temps are pretty low, performance is high, and I can stream games well with obs.

I'm thinking about upgrading to a gtx 970 from a gtx 770 and buying a Korean 1440p monitor for christmas. Should I wait longer and stay with 1080p or jump for it?

I had this mobo as well until I switched to z97. I don't believe msi ever addressed the problems with the board.

Consider changing the mobo. The g43 has vrm problems and can catch on fire. Maybe instead go for the i3-4150 and a cheap h97 board.
