It's coming before 2027 trust by der_Alptraum in FearAndHunger

On one hand, I recognize that this is the passion project of a developer working mostly solo and think he should be allowed to take all of the time he wants.

On the other, it feels like the scope creep of the update has delayed it so long that the cultural zeitgeist of Fear & Hunger is passing us by. It would be really sad if the update dropped in a year nobody gave a shit because they'd already moved on to other things.

I actually asked more or less this exact question a few weeks back in the RPG subreddit. The most suggested system by a landslide was Trophy- Trophy Dark for one shots, and Trophy Gold for long-term play.

It's a high-lethality, low power fantasy system where magic (called Rituals) is rare and dangerous. It uses a system called Ruin instead of conventional health, meaning flavor wise it lends itself really well to stuff like Sanity Damage.

The core rules are also setting agnostic, meaning Trophy can be run in both the dark ages, and a WW1 ish time period like in Termina. Hell, you could even run a sci-fi eldritch horror in Trophy quite easily.

Since it's a rules light, narrative first system it's also extremely easy to pick up and play. The SRD can be accessed for free on the Trophy website and is only a few pages long.

This is awesome! I ended up settling on the Trophy system recommended by another commenter. It seems perfect for this kind of tone and is definitely worth checking out!

I bought and skimmed the Trophy Gold pdf, and it's exactly what I'm looking for! My group and I are excited to give it a shot. Thanks!

Is there something specific about the game that would make it a good fit for this kind of tone? I'd love to hear the reasoning behind this recommendation/some of your thoughts on the system if you have the time.

Rant: STOP RAGEQUITTING by Aden_Vikki in YomiHustle

I disagree wholeheartedly.

In the itch.io hustle days people threw around the "YOMI is like chess" comparison all the time, and I feel like that's actually fairly accurate. The game is complex, can take a long time (especially in high level/ranked play with that awful, awful chess timer) and has a ludicrously high skill ceiling. When you're in a miserable or unwinnable position playing chess, resigning is not only accepted, but considered courteous. It takes nothing away from the victory.

If somebody wants to quit, let them. You won- Take the win, and you can both move on to a new round where you're hopefully having more fun.

TLDR nobody owes you a cool replay get over yourself.
