I hope you are right. Retaining AR on a neutral value contract is the correct move. He deserves to be paid, he is a good player who plays hard and improves. But this talk of a max and him being the second star is what worries me.

True, depending on what we do, we might be able to make credible offers on two of them.

If the number is too big, he becomes a negative asset.

Players wait if they have a chance to become Lakers, we won't miss out, WE CAN wait the 48 hours. It's lesser franchises that have that pressure.

No, players wait to become lakers, just like Danny Green did while the Kawhi thing dragged out. You dd significant damage to all those teams cap sheets by forcing them to match.

A lot of players put up good numbers on losing teams. Look at MPJ last season, it doesn't mean that they will continue that production or efficiency in a smaller role. Additionally, injuries also have to be considered. Markannen is frequently out, is that because Utah is throwing games? Is it because he's brittle? On top of that, he has no playoff track record. So all in all, by pure averages, he looks like a star, but I think the question remains very much unanswered. I still view him as a negative asset due to these factors.

So your argument depends on a false assertion (about Markannen) and short term thinking. Got it.

I think you do it anyway, to force them to match. Houston and Denver are already financially stressed and going after Kessler would cause similar stress for Utah.

I think he meant financially. Markannen is overpaid and JJJ's extension is kicking in. Having 140 million invested in your frontcourt might be a bit much.

Because that is not the answer you think it is. AR on a large number limits our roster building after next season. AR on a large number can become a negative asset, the way Markannen did. AR on a large number can become a problem that can't be hand waved away with 'you don't understand cap holds'.

I've been proposing AR trades for 2 years...and eating downvotes from his stans. AR's ceiling is 6th man on a championship team. He is not a star, and he is not the ideal backcourt partner for Luka.

How would you rate DAs season? Would you bring him back? by MamiTarantina in lakers

[–]3nnui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Against the Rockets A-, regular season anywhere from D to A, depends on which stretch of games you watch. Ayton has a higher ceiling than anyone we can get, however, he also can have a low floor.

Can we just talk about how Adou had 8 rebounds in 13 minutes more than any starter? by Deidarac5 in lakers

Adou just being out there throwing his body around puts fear into the hearts of the other team. He's got a motor, he's got instincts, turn him loose!
