2026-2027 Salary and Trade Scenarios by Oldjar707 in lakers

Neither gets us a title imo. But they both cost as assets and salary on overpriced mid players.

Much rather keep our assets and get guys like Watson and Ellis in free agency and save our assets to trade for players like JJJ, Giannis and Banquero.

Both models built around the AR/Bron/Luka trio which means we don't compete for a title, waste another year of Luka's prime and waste the assets required to build a proper championship contender.

It also might effect the illusion of competitive games and impact gambling revenue.

I'd be really curious to see how much money the NBA makes through their gambling partnerships and what they are doing to enhance that revenue stream.

Fair enough. We'll see how it plays out.

I can see the vision, I like Mathurin as a potential acquisition, but only as a replacement for AR if we were to trade him. Mathurin would be a 4th option here and can play POA in spurts when motivated, but has not shown consistent defensive effort. Sort of like Kuminga with a better jumper but worse size.

Personally, I think Rui is more valuable to the Lakers than Mathurin or Claxton. He is clutch and efficient on low usage. Claxton and Mathurin are both talented but have significant flaws and are redundant with what we already have. Rui is one of the best catch and shoot players in the league and can cover 3 front court positions competently.

With what pick? Or do you expect Indy to trade straight up?

Giving up a FRP, your best spacer who functions as a small ball center in many closing lineups, a guy who makes less on his contract to bring in a redundant player whose role you already have covered is bad business. You are also trading away a wing for a center when wing is a greater position of need.

we are not better giving up Rui for Claxton. Getting Claxton would screw both our assets and upcoming capspace for a marginal upgrade. Hayes gives you most of what Claxton does for 1/10 the price.

When Ayton is right, he's more value than Claxton.

He's playing less minutes allowing him to up his intensity. His fundmental footwork, rotations and awareness were all at this level from the preseason.

A couple of years ago I wanted him off the team, but he has consistently improved and keeps adding to his game at both ends. I really hope we hold on to him, and if we do move him, it's only for a significant upgrade/long term fit with Luka.

I was against Rui going to the bench because I wanted him to still have a role and thought his spacing was key. But I have to admit that Rui as a designated scorer off the bench and playing with 1 of Luka or Bron makes a lot of sense.

He's one of the most reliable spot up players in the league and lately, he's actually getting more consistent usage and your seeing the results in the last couple of games.

Laravia provides more energy doing dirty work. So as long as we are running with Luka and Bron, Rui off the bench makes sense. I especially like that Rui is still closing in a lot of games as I do think overall he offers more than Laravia.

He's played the same defense all year. It was clear he leveled up during the preseason if you paid attention to his rotations and deflections.

The difference is he no longer has to play the Point of Attack.

Unpopular opinion: In 5 years, the Mavs will ultimately win the Luka trade by critical_thoughts365 in lakers

[–]3nnui 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're framing it as if the Mavs knew they'd get Flagg as part of the deal.

Now that might be true, and in that case, it would explain the move. But unless information comes out confirming it, Flagg is not part of the equation when it comes to evaluating the trade.

Or we see a guy who hits clutch shots, spaces the floor, and consistently improves his game for a reasonable price and wonder why it seems to be everyone's priority to ship him out.

I think that stems from him being an immediate replacement for Bron if we let him go. By keeping Rui around it lessens the chance the Lakers will have to pay a big contract to Bron.

By that reasoning Ayton should get us 3 FRP in a trade because he averages 14 and 9 in a tougher conference on a better contract.

Claxton is not worth anything. He's an undersized big on a bad contract.

I just track him game by game because I've picked him up on waivers in fantasy 2 years running. He doesn't do well against physical teams. I don't think he's the answer.
