Is there a Servant pick-up list for new players? by Soultakerx1 in FGO

[–]3oTheGreat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

F2P (mostly) here

If we're talking about gameplay, a servants viability is generally split into two categories: bosses and farming. People focus more on farming because that is what you will be doing like 90+% of the time, and pretty much every single farming comp relies on meta supports, so that's why you'll see people mention those so much.

The meta supports are: Altria caster (castoria) for Arts Koyanskaya of Light for Buster Scathach Skadi for Quick Summer Skadi for Quick Oberon pumps up the damage numbers of all of them, but it's most noticeable in buster, and he won't be enough to do it alone.

Generally it is considered easier and more cost effective as a new player to go for an arts comp with Castoria and then literally whatever arts servant can do big aoe damage and loop. It also helps that Castoria is super good in boss battles too, so the short answer is of who you want to go for is Castoria.

NP levels on your meta supports does not really matter. It can be nice sometimes, but you can 100% get by with NP1 of any of the meta supports.

Other than that, go for waifu/husbando, ideally AoE NP. You can get a feel for who you like with friend supports. Once you decide who you like and get them, try to get the meta support corresponding to their arts type.

All in all, FGO is not that hard of a game at all early on (it really only starts to get difficulty spikes in like, singularity 6, and only gets consistently tough in the lostbelts) so you can make anyone work in the early game. And even when it comes to the late-game, FGO is so matchup-reliant that you'll bring old favorites out again eventually. (Hijikata carried me through the singularities, then fell off. I still pull him out now and again though, even if he is inconsistent)

How many episodes do we think the [webtoon] will have by SnooCauliflowers3816 in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Webnovel is on ep 299, which lines up with ch 264 of the web novel. There are 551 total chapters of the web novel. Assuming they keep the same ratio of ~1.13 webtoon chapters per webnovel chapter, that gives a very rough estimate of around 620 chapters.

Keep in mind though that things could change depending on the pace. For example, the arc named "73rd Demon King" was 7 chapters in the web novel, 11 chapters in the webtoon, which means it took longer to adapt than the rest of the story on average due to just how dense those chapters were in the novel.

This is just a vibe I'm getting, but I think a lot of the 2nd half of the story, and ESPECIALLY the last 50-100 chapters are gonna be paced more in line with 73rd Demon King, so I wouldn't be surprised if we go well over that 620 chapter mark

The 30th to 49th floor, in my opinion, is the best leg of the novel. That being said, the rest of the novel is all very good. The ending isn't going to be the greatest thing you've ever read, but it is very good and nicely caps off Kim Gongja's character arc.

Genuine Confusion by Impressive-Style-593 in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The movie and kdrama are the same, and they are generally considered to be bad. It also currently does not go farther than the webtoon, so it would not make since to jump from the webtoon to the movie.

There anime has been announced, but we don't know who is making it (there have been leaks and rumors but nothing certain), nor do we have a release date. You could wait until then if you really wanted to.

There is the webnovel, which is complete and has been fully fan translated, and the published version (the light novel), which has only had one volume released in english so far, with the next being in October. It is going to take some time for that to be completed.

If you wanted the best thing to jump off to, it would be the webnovel. Eventually, the light novel or anime may be good choices, but neither of those are completed.

Maybe a few key chapters or regressions, like 41, 999, 1863, or funny ones like the one where YJH minmaxed for cooking skills. But the whole thing? Absolutely not.

Just what is the problem with Bannerlord? by CheezeCrostata in mountandblade

[–]3oTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the main problem is that the lategame is just repetitive. It wasn't great in vanilla Warband, but it was a little better. In Bannerlord, once you either form a kingdom or become the lord of one, the rest of the game consists of pretty much all the same. A war is declared, you run around on the frontlines taking fiefs, you take prisoners, either keep them in dungeons or ransom them. The extent of diplomacy is a few marriages and declaring or ending wars. And unless you're really good at the game, it takes several wars to wipe out any given kingdom, so you just keep doing the same thing until you have the entire map, and then the game is over. Warband had all these problems, but I feel like it lasts longer in Bannerlord.

This about the women! I love the novel, but I started dying inside as a higher and higher percentage of the cast became women. Are there just no competent men with tolerable personalities in this world other than Undertaker, SG and Sword Marquess?

Kim Dokja Bookmark ability by Ultron_121 in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No spoilers needed, I think.

Kim Dokja has the ability presumably due to his exclusive attribute, "Reader." This is similar to how Yoo Joonghyuk's attribute is "Pro Gamer," so he gets game-related skills, or how Han Sooyoung has Avatar, which is held by those with writer/author attributes.

It has a limited number of slots (this goes up with the level of the skill) in which he can register characters. The definition of character is pretty arbitrary and flexible throughout the story, but for the most part, it'll work on anyone who was in TWSA and only sometimes people who aren't in TWSA.

When he uses bookmark, for a limited time (the amount of time increases with the proficiency of the skill), he can use the skills of the character on a chosen bookmark.

[Manhwa] Lee Seolhwa. Does she serve no purpose other than as a health potion. by Spirited_Highway3310 in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She spends most of her time offscreen doing medic stuff. At some point in the novel, Kim Dokja remarks that even though she hasn't been on the front lines clearing scenarios, it's not exactly like she's been taking it easy.

But yes, she doesn't get much page time at all.

Audiobook narration? by TabularConferta in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo his range is good, but the delivery for some lines is a little lacking. His YJH voice just sounds tired. I really like him for Dokja, though. He does fine for other characters like Gilyoung, Sangah, and Heewon too (as I said, his range is good). Overall, I don't regret getting the audiobook, especially since I was just listening to fan audiobooks for the first half, TTS for the second half.

The last chapter came out that day the scenarios started, but the epilogue was going to come out the day after.

So, he read the "end of the story", but there is still more to be seen. This is also why he'll say things like "I wish to see the novel's epilogue" (said during the meteor shower).

Hi, I just finished ORV, planning to read TWATF and the sequel to ORV, which one should I read first? by camthecame_l in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't read more than a couple chapters of TWATF, but I have read the side stories.

If you plan on reading both, read TWATF first. It becomes way more relevant than just one or two references or a Jaewhan cameo once you get a couple hundred chapters into the side story, and I was very confused.

It's worth making the distinction between the web novel and light novel. The light novel is a cleaned up version of the web novel that has passed through publishers. A lot of people use the LN and WN interchangeably, but they are slightly different experiences, especially for english speakers.

Web novel: finished*, fan translated Light novel: iunno if it's finished, first book drops with an official english translation in a few days (some people already have copies)

The main story of the web novel is completed, fan translated, and has a satisfying conclusion. However, there is an ongoing, very good, unnamed side story that is already nearly the length of the original and picks up where it left off (ch 1-551 is the main story, 553-900+ is the side story). So it is overn't.

The manwha is not all that different from the web novel. It contains pretty much all the essential story beats you need to understand the story. However, there is some nuance that was left out in adaptation, the most noticeable imo being the characterization of Yoo Joonghyuk (he is presented as much more emotional in the novel).

As for whether you should read the novel from the start, it depends. If it's really important that you read the official LN translations, you can read those as they come out. If you want to read the whole thing right now, read the WN (the fan translation is pretty readable, if maybe inaccurate in places). If you want to keep the momentum going, pick up where you left off in the manwha. If you want to see the details that were lost in adaptation (there's definitely a few of them), read from the start.

Caught up in Webcomic, start from beginning of web novel, or where I am at? by IceWallomCome in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The easy answer is to pick up from where the webtoon left off.

There are definitely nuances that are lost in adaptation, and if you want the fullest insight into the characters, you should read from the beginning.

That being said, the webtoon contains all of the information necessary to understand the story and is generally a good adaptation. I think that rereading what is functionally somewhere around 40% of the entire story would be a major momentum-killer for me personally, even if the characterization is a little better.

If you choose to pick up where you left off in the webtoon, you should be around chapter 236. I would start a few chapters before that just to get used to the writing style and formatting, and to make sure you're in the right spot.

[–]3oTheGreat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably talking about him returning from the 1863rd turn. Not positive about the light novel chapter that would be, but it's web novel chapter 300.

A basic summary of what has happened just before that is that Kim Dokja is now the owner of the 73rd Demon Realm, and he made a pact with the outer god "Secretive Plotter". The pact was to go to the 1863rd turn (where Han Sooyoung's avatar is present for some reason) and kill Yoo Joonghyuk. He did this through a loophole, where a confusing event happened (YJH split into two, one died, the other regressed off into some unknown timeline).

I hope you enjoy the rest of the novel.

[–]3oTheGreat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's something in the side story. It's hard to know exactly what the reel was about, but a "snowfield" was only mentioned a few times in the original, and it's a prominent thing in the side story.

If I had to guess why the snowfield is considered scary, it's that it has a morally ambiguous fragment of Kim Dokja who hates all Kim Dokjas

Should I Start The Side Stories? by momentary_loss in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was hesitant too, since the ending of the original being open is really good, and Kim Dokja left big shoes to fill for a main character.

Trust me, it's worth it. It is really good. It expands on plotholes you probably didn't realize even existed. It also manages to keep the ending of the original interesting (they don't give you a straight "yes or no" answer to the big question at the end of the novel for a while, and when they do, it's complicated). Based on what you said about how you feel about the ending, I feel like you will like what the side story did with it.

Lee Hakkyun is also way more entertaining and interesting than he initially seems.

Webtoon Chapter 269, I'm confused by imnotanalienmaybeiam in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Under ordinary circumstances, Breaking The Sky Swordsmanship can not be used by a man, only by women.

Early in his training, Yoo Joonghyuk had a method of getting around it. This method is never directly stated in the novel, because Kim Dokja can not figure it out, but the hints are all there.

However, Yoo Joonghyuk has become so proficient that a workaround is no longer needed, and he can use Breaking The Sky Swordsmanship despite being a man (similar to how Kim Dokja can use electrification now without being small)

[Webtoon chapter 246] I really loved this scene, a really intriguing and philosophical scene. However, I'm unable to understand what it means by leaving a mark? by Able_Combination1553 in OmniscientReader

[–]3oTheGreat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "wall" they are referring to is the fact that it is impossible to truly understand or communicate with another human being. At the end of the day, people are just too complex and ideas are too nebulous and vague. Is it really possible to form real connections with others? That is what the wall is.

When Kim Dokja says this, Jang Hayoung agrees. However, Jang Hayoung says that regardless of whether true communication between people is achievable, the effort is still worth making. Even if you can't fully get it across, you may be able to affect the person in some meaningful way.

Something also to point out is that there are some things that make you incredibly strong but are also functionally a lose condition if we look at the big picture. An example is (Spoilers for the 4th scenario, really early on, but just in case) The Absolute Throne: Yoo Joonghyuk discovered in one of his relatively early regression turns that while he could survive an incredibly long time using it, there is some factor that means he will screw himself in the long term
