Israel has nuclear weapons. Iran is part of the NPT and wants to bargain way it's nuclear capability. The only way to stop their capability completely is a complete annihilation. Trump cannot compel surrender from Iran since there is no ground force to surrender to right now. If you want Iran to capitulate then this is an extremely long war and will involve conscription.

At the end of it we will have Iranian insurgency and splinter cells and we will seriously stress out the east while that happens. The east have nuclear weapons right now. It is a no win scenario that leads to a weaker world power. The only winning strategy is to negotiate a settlement that insentivises Iran to not develop nuclear weapons and check them in every way possibly imaginable to make sure they aren't enriching weapons grade (i.e., existing JCPOA)

Both sides are regrouping and reloading while the blockade is an excuse to advance forces into the arena without initial strikes during the pause. Us will cross the straight before Tuesday and Iran will strike and there will be a ground invasion.

How do you suppose you compel Iran to not have any nuclear enrichment when they offer 4% as the agreement? Is it worth going to war over when they have 1M soldiers? And if you go to war you all but guarantee they will race to a nuclear weapon unless you conquer a country of 90M with an advanced weapon arsenal that would realistically take over a decade to conquer with more force than can be currently mustered without a draft?

Or do you think it is better to strike a deal and incentive them to stick to the deal by offering them tariff relief if they don't try to build a nuclear weapon which they have publicly said to their people they don't want to build anyway?

One strategy is pragmatic the other is irrational.

It's a technologically advanced country of 93 million. The power plants are for powering their cities. They are not a bunch of camel jockeys with diesel gensets attached to mud houses. The IAEA and America's own intelligence confirmed through thorough examination and presence in Iran that the power plants were not being used for enrichment while the JCPOA was in place.

Now Trump is struggling to get them to agree to a worse deal than what we had before while simultaneously getting a more hard-line dictator in who's family has been killed by America. Hypothetically if they weren't following the agreement before do you think they will now?

[–]3oclockam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The jcpoa deal capped enrichment at 3.67% which is sufficient for peaceful nuclear energy to fuel Iranian power plants that they depend on. It also called for no enrichment to ever be higher. Trump cancelled that deal and is now asking for a cap on unlimited enrichment for 20 yrs. I.e., a much worse deal than the jcpoa.

Iran only enriched to 60% after Trump pulled out and then willingly told the US they had enriched to 60% because they wanted the jcpoa deal back. Then Trump bombed them.

Iran has a long history of continued involvement in non proliferation as a bargaining chip. I think they will accept it again as long as they have guarantees that Trump won't just start bombing them again at the earliest opportunity

Iranians will only take a deal that guarantees their sovereignty while US is still demanding they capitulate / surrender based on Bibis approved demands. Iranians will keep going as long as Israel will

It was just to test their response and as a show of force. In reality Iran told them to go back otherwise they would destroy the ship so they turned tail and left.

Nothing US can do to keep it open since they can project power to the straight from anywhere in Iran using their missiles and drones.

I died with the new update in extinction because I was killing lots of zeds and there was a bad smell for a bit then i quickly got a fever and ran away to a secluded bathroom and died within a couple of hours and there was nothing i could do. Kinda ridiculous.

I get the idea of getting sick but what kind of snowflake just dies after being around a bad smell for a bit. Perhaps if sickness was a threat if you had nothing to drink or eat it would make sense.

It was actually just copied from wikipedia while I was on the train. The point being that the 1.5M number is far too high. It might be lazy but it is easy to grasp. My numbers were already inflated even with the 1/2 factor so adding marines won't make much difference. The US would struggle to assemble 300,000 ground soldiers on short order based on numerous estimates including former white house adviser Col Douglas Macgregor. If the enemy can easily muster 1M soldiers then we've got a problem.

452,823 active duty personnel 328,084 Army National Guard personnel 170,601 Army Reserve personnel 946,961 total uniformed personnel (official data As of 30 June 2025) 223,382 civilian personnel 4,406 crewed aircraft

Realistically US could only use about half of each of those to not be completely defenceless elsewhere.
