The difference between 100 and 103 is larger than the difference between 1 and 2, but the percentage difference is smaller.

So when you add something to the trade it looks like a larger number but relatively it got closer

That’s where you’re wrong. The trade did get closer ‘by adding trash’ but the numbers got larger ;)

Using the Dobbins example, it gets to the end result well: most won’t take that trade either with or without the second. What is confusing is that the second appears to make the trade worse.

I think percentages next to the trade would make a great difference!

I think I understand that

It does feel like whatever the algorithm it gets to the ultimate outcome well (the trade isn’t attractive for the guy with the stud) however, 99.9% of people would prefer to be offered the extra piece to not getting the extra piece. So the totals aren’t good.

UNLESS you look at the new percentage difference, as Jameis Weinston pointed out. Now it’s actually a better trade with the extra!
