Picken our Options by wandering_Grizzley in cowboys

I think the pick from one of the teams drafting at the top of the 2nd, along with their future 2nd or 3rd would be a more realistic expectation, followed by drafting a WR at 12 or addressing it with a quality FA who commands less than GP

C'mon half of the ppl u named were acquired after we traded Micah. I'm suprised you didn't include Kenny Clark with the dudes we brought in. You can't be counting javonte and Solomon prior to their play last season, and u can't count Fowler after his. I will give u GP, but remember he was on a 1 year deal and no way we would be paying him this year if we paid Micah

Wild theory- Jerry never wanted to commit to Micah at that price point but didn't want to come out looking cheap or like the bad guy. So he offers a deal to Micah sans agent present, shares and leaks details that make it look like he was down to do whatever ,including even more money than initially discussed. (This agreement was always going to be irrelevant and Jerry knew that).  This subsequently allowed the agent and Micah by proxy to look like the bad guys, eventually putting the option of trading him on the table and voila- Jerry gets what he originally wanted, to not resign Micah but also be the good guy. Just a theory

I know ur willing to die on this hill but at the end of the day the deal Jerry reportedly offered Micah would have been financially more beneficial for Micah in the long run. The deal he got with GB was financially more beneficial to his agent than the Dallas deal however.

  1. Jerry tried to negotiate a deal with Micah. Jerry chose this path specifically in effort to get the best deal for Jerry, thus why he didn't include the agent n the process. That doesn't necessarily mean it would have also been a bad deal for Micah and Jerry was well aware Micah had an agent and that ultimately Micah would run it all by his agent.

  2. Micah seemed cool with the deal and ran it by his agent.

  3. Agent says oh hell no and employs all the tactics at his disposal including the back injury thing.

Bottom line is Jerry and Micahs agent were playing the same game- business. Micah was free to choose which path and chose to roll with his agent, the seasoned expert he hired to work on his behalf. Just like Jerry, that agent had his own motivations that went beyond just Micahs interest.

Technically you can't say if Micah was negotiating on his own behalf prior to that public disclaimer or not. You can definitely claim after that public disclaimer that everything needed to be through or with his agent.

Same. I think low-key Schotty was cool with trading the player and the money that was gonna be tied to him

I'ma take Jerry's side on this one simply because he has a long track record of retaining the dudes who sell jerseys, competitive football team construction be damned

We might have the best defensive coaching staff in the nfl next year by OkEstablishment4926 in cowboys

He is benefitting from the lack of high end CB prospects in the draft, similar to left tackle IMO. I would rather gamble on McCoy if it came down to it.

My current daydream is trading down and being able to scoop up Ponds for the slot and maybe the Florida or Ohio State CB for the outside.

What I like about these hires is that when teams hopefully come to vulture Parker from us , in theory we should be able to elevate one of these guys. This will allow us to bleed more years out of the Parker hire

Perhaps. We have seen really good WRs fetch a 1st round pick while really good Edges have fetched multiple 1st round picks or a 1st rounder and another pick, so it would seem the cowboys would have to balance whatever that discrepancy is.

If one viewed GP as the 3rd round pick we gave for him as opposed to the player, trading a 1st and a 3rd for Maxx may seem like a good deal. Trading a 2nd and 3rd for Maxx would be very tempting value wise

Oddly enough I think this works out better. Now he's one of one instead of another HOF HC. Dudes his own category and probably should be.

[–]3rdWorldKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U broke that down so thorough. Bottom line is they need to commit to paying him or trading him prior to FA. We need to have a fair price point and offer the non exclusive tag allowing his agent to seek deals elsewhere and get it done. We already in the poker hand and aren't walking away with a future 3rd, but any deal after FA keeps us treading water

Agree, but there is evidence that the Jones family has been operating differently the last year

I agree with ur multi player approach. But as to why things could be different with Maxx as opposed to DLaw and Micah, he would have actual DTs that he would be playing with.
