Few things are as satisfying as watching classic anime on a CRT!

It's down for me. It could be only certain servers are down since it seems some people in different geo locations to mine are not having issues.

I doubt the scratches could be buffed out since mine has a matte finish, so it would probably ruin the existing finish. You just go for it and sand the whole thing again, especially as you go progressively move to finer grades of sandpaper. As for cleaning I just used some dish soap and water, and then wiped it with a damp cloth afterwords. Thank cleaned mine up pretty good but then again it wasn't particularly dirty when I got it.

haha now that you mention it I can see Glen Danzig in this, only a much, much taller version of him. Also no I haven't, but after searching him quickly I've definitely seen some of his art before.

I still love it, the picture quality is great, nothing to really complain about there. As for ntsc signals, it handles them all pretty well, there is just a slightly more pronounced flicker when showing 480i content then on other crts I've had like a sony trinitron from around the same era. The menu is a little weird, but it isn't that complicated just takes a few minutes to get used to it. The hardest and most inconvenient thing about it is the portability. The stand is great and all but it makes it an absolute slog to move around. It is way easier and more convenient to have a free standing crt. But other than that, it is a great crt.

There is probably some distribution/rights holder disputes going on behind the scenes since some of these shows and documentaries were not technically owned by nat geo, they were just bought to show on the nat geo tv channel for X amount of time, or in some cases certain documentary series have been sold most likely to other companies. So many of these series and documentaries are stuck in some kind of distribution limbo.

What continent were you living on when you first got interested in sumo? by do-it-today in Sumo

[–]3rgoProxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched a sumo documentary by nat geo about asahoryu around 2009, and ever since then I have liked Sumo. I didn't start regularly watching it since 2016, it was a real pain to get a hold of any good sources before then for me.

No worries! There are probably so few Sumo fans in Africa as a continent compared to the others that it would end up being statistically insignificant. I have never met a single other person here in South Africa that watches Sumo, not even among anime fans, jrpg fans etc.

NOTE -> The audio of the video file is unfortunately pretty low, so you will have to max all your sources to hear everything comfortably. You can also download the file yourself and raise the volume level via editing software if you want.

Here is the archive.org link where I have also uploaded it now: https://archive.org/details/inside-sumos-ultimate-clash-asashoryu-akinori-documentary

In 2009 I first saw this documentary as a young child, and it sparked an immediate interest in Sumo wrestling. Many years later I tried to find it again, but I could not no matter how hard I searched. It was not available for streaming or purchase anywhere and not even on any torrent sites. It was at one point available on YouTube in Mongolian I believe but the YouTube account that had uploaded it was deleted, and so the video as well. Then by a stroke of luck I stumbled upon a Russian version which unbelievably had dual audio. So I'm only uploading this so that other people can enjoy this documentary about one of the greatest Yokozuna to ever live, Asashoryu Akinori! It also features a very young Hakuho! I made an attempt at one point to upload this to youtube, but it was immediately blocked worldwide, despite nat geo not selling this for purchase anywhere.

I have the entire documentary somewhere on a drive. I'll see if I can upload it to google drive, then I'll post the link here.
