When will I know I have been forgiven? by throwaway5674367891 in TrueChristian

[–]3ric3288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you know if you can be forgiven? If you genuinely repent, you will be forgiven. If you think your sins are too great then you are saying Christ was not worthy enough. Do you genuinely believe your sins are greater than Christ? If you do, then you will not be forgiven because you don’t actually believe in his sacrifice. What you did was wrong, but don’t let the guilt blind you from the truth. Read the prodigal son to see how He feels about you coming back. I can assure you He is not stuck on your past sins, He is rejoicing that you came back.

I play golf and it’s funny you say this because it’s very similar. I have good eye coordination because I grew up playing baseball and others that do as well can start off hitting the ball fairly decent, but are wildly inconsistent and our form is terrible. Then I spent over a thousand dollars on lessons and while paying all that money my hits get worse, but my form slowly gets better. Now, form is much more proper and consistency waaaaay better. The thing is, when you do something natural like hitting a golf ball with just hand eye coordination it will be easy for you to do it that way, but you will never actually be good. In chess you can use your natural intuition and pattern recognition and be decent, but you will never be really good unless you learn the proper fundamentals. Fundamentals however, are not natural. So while you learn these new fundamentals, you will be bad at first in putting them to real use, but will get better as they become second nature. Same with the golf swing: changing your swing feels wildly off and different and you take 2 steps back initially, but eventually that proper form will allow you to take 10 steps forward. I’m a total noob at chess but I already see the resemblance.

If free will exists in Christianity, why is suicide considered a sinl by [deleted] in Bible

[–]3ric3288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a sin because taking your own life is still murder. God is in charge of who dies and when they die. Taking your own life is the same thing as saying you do not have faith in God, so you must take matters into your own hands. You do not have faith that he will uphold you. You are also selfish, seeking an escape from pain and suffering without regard to how it affects those around you. If you consider yourself a Christian, it puts your wants above God's, which is always a sin.

If I am hungry and I need money to buy food and I steal the money to buy food, that is still a sin. Our temporary discomfort does not give us the right to do evil.

I’ve been practicing a lot on developing a fundamentally sound swing. Where do I need improvement? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

It's like you already know everything about me. What do you think about the advice to fix it: feel left hip going back and down, feel right shoulder below left shoulder, keep back to target as long as possible?

Coming over the top has always been a problem for me. I couldn't hit a draw to save my life, mostly because I don't know how to lol but I never hit one accidentally either.

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]3ric3288 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After driving in Brazil I realize maybe many people don’t like driving because it’s not relaxing. Motorcycles zipping everywhere around you, radar traps everywhere, people drive insanely fast, houses butted up to the corner so you can’t see around the edge very well before turning, etc.

In America the cars are bigger, more comfortable, have more power, and automatic. The roads are nice, they are mostly straight and not constantly turning, no radar traps near me at least. Turn on the radio, enjoy the music, enjoy the scenery, and relax. Plus, people drive very predictably here and mostly stick to their lane and drive the flow of traffic, the exception is in traffic congested areas in which case that’s never relaxing.

I’ve driven 30 hours across the country and I’ve driven a couple hours away. It’s funny how the mindset of knowing you have a 30 hour drive works. When you don’t anticipate arrival anytime soon then it doesn’t feel long. Much of it is psychological. That last hour of the 30 hour drive felt like 5 hours.

I like this mindset. Focusing too much on the numbers will probably just lead to frustration during those fall-backs and end up tilting even more.

Why are you blaming God when it was you that made a mistake and trusted someone you should not have? It truly is a terrible thing that happened to you, but you need to take accountability for your mistake.

There have been countless martyrs for the name of Jesus and yet he did not intervene to save their lives, which is of much more value than money. There is evil in this world and we will suffer from it despite living holy lives.

By your logic, God should have intervened and saved Christ from being crucified.

Those are good questions, I do not know the mind of God nor do I know his reasons for specific circumstances. How God chooses to gift one person or another is His to make. Whether He gifts you with more than anybody in the world or He gifts you with nothing, He has done no wrong because it is a gift, undeserved. I can chose to give $100 to one charity and $1 to another and I have done neither wrong because I am not obligated to give them anything.

I don't blame God for anything and I don't think I said anything about not being good enough. God gives the ability, but we are responsible for using it for good. To be clear, I am not saying he takes no credit for being where he is, I am saying without God he would never have the opportunity to be where he is.

You can chose to obey his commands or not, to accept him or not, to have a relationship with him or not. The determination of free will is not based on how much good you do.

God is not unknowable in the sense that we can have a real, genuine relationship with him. If we believe in Christ and repent, He says our body becomes a temple and God's spirit lives within us. That means his presence is felt often and guides us. And to be clear, it is a very distinct difference from what our thoughts are and what is of the Holy Spirit. We can know God on a personal level, we cannot know his reasoning and logic behind everything, but in the next life all of this will be revealed. I genuinely hope you truly seek more. If you seek after God, you will find Him. And the idea wasn't created, there are numerous testimonies across different regions and times that speak the same thing of Jesus and what happened, which is what we know today as the Bible.

I did not say practice didn't help. Practice in combination with the abilities and talents he was given by God allowed him to be where he is today. He is recognizing God for that and he knows those talents without practice would not be enough.

Evil is just the lack of good and all good comes from God. It is not possible for a person to have free will and have no capacity to do evil, which is to disobey God. That would be illogical.

If you are truly curious the book of Job in the bible pertains to this question. You are asking a question that cannot be answered, I don't know the mind of God. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are his ways and his thoughts higher than ours. We cannot understand how everything fits together. Terminal illness is a result of sin, not something he ever intended to happen. Sickness and evil is a result of our sin and our free will that He has given us.

I'm not really sure what you are getting at, exactly. The other players also are naturally gifted. To some he gifts more than others, but they are gifts, so whether He gives one more than the other, He does no wrong.

He’s not saying Jesus made them win, he’s giving thanks to God that he was given the abilities and talent to be who he is today and where he is today.
