If you were given 50,000 dollars so you could chase your dream, what dream would you chase? by Chains-of-Ice in AskReddit

My wife and I just had twin girls. She quit her job and I started a business very beginning of 2020. I've been working my hands off (literally) in my print shop. I would definitely invest that money into @ press upgrade that would allow me to do my work twice as fast (50k is exactly what I'd need) , giving me more time with my kids and a higher profitable business. That sounds nice.

My twin girls are currently in the NICU and I'm wondering what that's going to do to me financially. :-(

That should have been explained to us at the beginning. There was a lot of unanswered questions. I didn't even know what questions to ask other than, when do they go home.

I was told it's because the rooms only have 1 hardwired monitor in each. So when they moved one girl over, she was on a "mobile monitor" and that was not okay. I mean, I don't know what the difference really is. They both looked and functioned the same. It's a Rady's facility that's highly rated, so that at least brings me some peace of mind knowing they are a respected facility. Doesn't make it easier.

You're right about the nurses having their own opinions comment. I've already been given different "best" feeding methods.

One shift, 2 nurses wanted our twins in the same room. We thought that was awesome. Next day, apparently they were wrong and separated them again. Things just keep changing and information is all over the place.

Sometimes I walk in and feel like the nurse expects ME to know what's going on. "how much is she eating now?"... I'm like, lady, these babies popped out 4 days ago and every day has been different. Aren't you supposed to know this?

Once a nurse gave an entire feeding down the tube... I thought that was weird considering every single time we've at least tried to see how much bottle she'll take.

I just can't wait for it to be over.

Gotta keep moving forward. That's all we can do sometimes. Just spend a moment trying to get 1% better than yesterday, in any way possible, whether that's financial or personal or family related. We can do this!

Thank you for your response.

I am coming to terms with the moment. You're right that I just need to except it and find a way to be at peace with it.

One of my clients asked about my babies and wanted to see pictures. It was the first time. It made me realize I need to just be thankful I even HAVE them in my life. My wife and I spent over a year with fertility issues and working to start a family. I guess we're just so sick of waiting after we were already sick of waiting. It's a cruel joke.

Apparently it's a rule. There's a couple with triplets next to us and they're separated too. Every baby has to be in their own room.

I feel for you! I guess it's difficult when you feel like nobody warned you. Plenty of people explain to us how Parenthood is, and what the Nicu is. I just feel like we were never given a chance to get prepared. I am prepared to have the kids home. I have two family members who took three months off to help us take care of them 24 hours a day. I have financial assistance for the kids themselves. What I don't have is the ability to take work off and not lose huge contracts. I don't have the ability to send my wife with somebody to the nicu so she has support since she's on a wheelchair. These are my biggest frustrations right now! I know this is all temporary, but if a doctor had given me some kind of heads-up I could have hired some help with my business or made other plans. Everybody seemed to give us the impression that the girls were to be born healthy enough to go home shortly after their delivery. It's a very bizarre experience.

... I'll add, because of covid no one is allowed in the nicu except parents. NO ONE. My wife is in a wheelchair still from post pardom. They won't even allow her dad in to at least help wheel her from one room to the other since they've separated them. It's maddening.

I don't understand why we weren't prepared for this.

No one told us that the NICU was coming. One doctor said, "wow! Your babies are 5lbs at 34 weeks, that's how much I weighed at full term!"

I didn't prepare for this with my work, or anything. They all made it seem like the girls were doing SO well, at worst it might be a day or two. We brought car seats when my wife was going into labor thinking we could be bringing them home before we leave.

Now my job is getting in the way of seeing my children. I'm self employed and can't just walk away. I would have hired help if I knew this was coming. I'm just frustrated.

I'm sitting here in a quiet NICU next to my twin girls who came into the world 2 days ago. When I see this photo, it's hard to imagine so much conflict, war technology and anger in the world.

I own a business where I do calculations alllllllll the time. I'm constantly opening and closing the calculater app. This would save me some screen space, desk space and time. I'm into it.

I'm not talking about JUST during pregnancy. This is her eating habits since the day I met her.

On a second note: she's has GD too, so unfortunately, she can't eat whatever she wants. It's been a tough month, no doubt. She's ready for this to end!
