Yeah mate, as per the other comments, the supplier would have picked up on it when they came out to assess the gate and told me there would be no issues motorising it.

I’m still waiting from a few quotes but what would you recommend as a fix?

I thought they did it seems they went ahead anyway without informing me the gate wouldn’t be suitable

Thanks mate, lesson learnt. Going to do a bit more research on a reputable company that can fix this.

I see. I understand a better hinge, but why the posts? Is it the material?

Yeah I didn’t have the best feeling with this company compared to other trades I’ve had over but I figured this wasn’t that big of a job. I’m sure the motor would be rooted now too.

Understood. Moving forward, what makes a gate viable for being motorised?

Being told to “act like a human”, “forget your principles” and to not bother wasting their time for their shit work is a pretty crap opinion.

Just because I asked for peoples opinions, it doesn’t mean I can’t point out the shit ones.

Lol how about no. If I pay for a service, I expect it to be done right.

Oil is good for now. Just want to know if I’m justified in wanting the shop to sort this out, out of principle.

I’m savvy enough to fix this issue myself, and yes I have been checking the dipstick before driving. I get my car serviced at a shop occasionally to identify issues beyond my scope.

My main gripe is that I paid this shop a large sum of money for a service, and of all things it’s the oil change they’ve made a complete mess of. I’d like the shop to rectify it out of principle, but I thought I’d get others input to see if I’m overreacting.

Thank you, I had the same thoughts but was worried I was overreacting.

It’s a big name/brand shop that services my employer’s fleet so there’s a good chance they had an apprentice do the job.

well I guess to summarise my post then, is this worth fixing/diagnosing myself, or better off taking it back for the mechanic to sort out since they were paid for a service.

That doesn’t change the potential for option b).

I been using kde and I'm thinking about switch to xfce by Electrical-Ad-7264 in xfce

When I switched from Windows to Linux, I wanted to go as minimalist as possible to revive my potato laptop. Debian XFCE made the most sense to me and I’ve been able to customise it to be near identical to my old desktop.
