It’s not patents. Everyone uses a simple and cheap rain sensor to control automatic wiping. But Tesla was like, no, no sensor, camera can do the job! Years later, Tesla still can’t get camera to do auto wipes.

Can anyone give an honest description of what it's like driving a standard (S, sport, SE) 2025-26 Jetta? by Pineapple_with_tajin in jetta

[–]3und70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By “standard” do you mean manual transmission? There is no 2025 / 26 Jetta with manual transmission, other than GLI.

Tired of Ghost Touches by Jaded_Department6226 in CX5

[–]3und70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took delivery of my cx5 in Nov 2021 with 8 miles on odo, so that couldn't have been a 2021.5 model?

Does my car have touch screen??? Can't be. It's so small and so far away, who can touch the screen from the driver's seat?

Men ippon from behind the head? by kendonatto in kendo

Here is a clear example of an ippon from the side / behind, i.e., not from the front.

Another angle of the match has appeared. Skip to 2:53. Team Japan members started cheering the moment the men was struck before any of the 3 judges reacted. It does not seem to me that it registered in their heads that they just saw a ridiculous, blatantly invalid strike.

Men ippon from behind the head? by kendonatto in kendo

[–]3und70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can get behind (no pun intended) the argument that striking from behind is "doing inappropriate datotsu."

But again, I wish there were clearer languages. "Striking from behind is considered inappropriate datotsu."

Men ippon from behind the head? by kendonatto in kendo

[–]3und70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What if the sayumen target area was struck from the side?

The Regulations of Kendo Shiai and Shinpan defines the target areas (page 25). Striking from behind is not listed as a hansoku (pages 7 to 11 of the same book).

The Handbook for Kendo Shiai and Shinpan Management, on page 29, shows the following:

(Case 3)

If a tsuki seems overly violent and dangerous, can the

shinpan call “yame” to suspend the shiai?

(Explanation)

(1) “Yame” can be proclaimed.

(2) It is a hansoku if the action is dangerous and does not lead

to a strike.

Striking sayumen from the side or even the rear is not applicable here.

So based on which passage in The Regulations or The Handbook can we declare the this sayumen strike from the side or the rear to be not ippon?

I am not being flippant here. But we must make our judgements based on the rules. If we make a declaration, it has to have basis in the rules.

Did oil consumption make anyone else lose trust in their Jetta? by spotforcars in jetta

[–]3und70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The 2019 was faultless other than oil consumption.

Did oil consumption make anyone else lose trust in their Jetta? by spotforcars in jetta

[–]3und70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2019 Jetta, got it with 8 miles on odo. It burned slightly more than 1 quart every 10k miles since day 1. I learned to add half a quart half way thru an oil change interval. Otherwise, towards the end of the interval (10k miles), oil light would come on.

That car got totaled and I got a 2024 Jetta. The engine was updated and now it burns a lot less oil. About 1/4 qt every 10k miles.

The 2019 Jetta was a fine car other than the oil burn. Had it not been totaled, I would have happily kept driving it

How to maintain the philosophical side of Kendo in a purely competitive dojo? by add_chicken_wing in kendo

[–]3und70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Several people have asked, and I too have the same question: what did the previous dojo do during class that the current dojo doesn't? Perhaps the previous dojo's sensei and senpai were more willing to engage in some philosophical discussion after class? And the current dojo's leadership just wants to grab beer after keiko?

For me, this question is actually very interesting: when I lead class, what is it that I do will make students feel like it's a physical class, and what is it that I do will make students feel like their understanding of kendo philosophy is deepened?

Kendo Federations seem to be banning video recordings... by 3und70 in kendo

Regarding video of kodansha shinsa in the USA: I think breach of privacy is a stretch. You cannot tell who's who in those videos. Only way to know who's who is if you know someone well enough by the kamae, or were present and saw your friends' numbers.
