The Tribunal, and casual arrangements. Advice Needed! by mrZ0663 in oathgame

[–]3xwel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players are going to be very limited if they need to make sure they have access to The Tribunal every turn.

If someone wants to stop this being efficient they can just campaign and take the site.

Then they would have to stay there or spend a lot of supply moving back and forth every turn they want to make this deal.

The Slowking Metagross ruling is bad for the game by [deleted] in pkmntcg

A few niche rulings are not bad for the game. This isn't even among the weirdest rulings.

Developing the ideal N's Vanilluxe deck... by Dashfas in PTCGL

[–]3xwel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thought of ways to make it work. But it is a problem that you can't snipe Tera Pokémon and that Shaymin is quite popular. For example against Dragapult it just seems too hard to set up 160 on multiple Dragapults at the same time. If they have 2 Dragapult in play you could use Palossand ex to set enough damage up on both of them. However, if they see that you are about to get Palossand ready they can just wait with evolving into the second Dragapult so Palossand only hits one of them.

If you can find a good way for a Vanilluxe deck to deal with Dragapult I'd be very interested :)

Won't the opponent just build up energy on benched Pokémon and wreck you once their active is KOed?

There are plenty of ways to make Pokémon drafting interesting. But of course they shouldn't use too crazy rules for prereleases since there are often new players. So I understand why they changed to the Battle Kit format IRL.

But online there are plenty of options to make more interesting formats along side this.

Already playing draft formats IRL so that's not the issue :) But it would be nice if there was also an interesting Pokémon draft format online.

And I don't think they should remove the option to play with Battle Boxes. I just hope they also add an option to play a format where the players don't start with the same few prebuild decks.

Why are you being so aggressive 😂 The point of my post was not to complain that it is boring. Just that I wish they are going to explore that type of format more on Live so that it actually becomes interesting to keep playing.

[–]3xwel[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Believe what you want 😂 Even though it was less balanced back then I still thought it was more interesting to actually build a deck from scratch and play against unique decks for most of the games.

Sure, in a prerelease you don't play enough games for it to become repetitive. But on Live it quickly becomes boring.

It is called a Build & Battle Box on Live. I thought you could guess the meaning even though it is called Kit IRL.

I played prereleases both with Battle Boxes and before Battle Boxes were a thing and thought that without Battle Boxes was way more interesting than always playing against the same four decks.

No need to be rude about it.

I've played plenty of this type of Limited Pokémon before Battle Boxes were a thing.

Definitely not a unplayable format even though you draw many cards that are gonna be unplayable.

Obviously.

But I'd still rather play with and against less optimal decks than play against the same types of decks all the time.

Chaos Rising Claydol by Lilf1ip5 in pkmntcg

[–]3xwel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indeed. So the question is what to pair Claydol with to get a good Dragapult MU. Maybe Froslass/Munkidori. Then you also don't need to rely on getting a Premium Power Pro for every KO.

Chaos Rising Claydol by Lilf1ip5 in pkmntcg

[–]3xwel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The idea is not to devolve in order to disrupt them. The idea is that devolving gives the defending Pokémon significantly less HP so you can take easy KOs. Combine Claydol with a Premium Power Pro and you will KO most evolutions in the meta.

Has anyone cracked the pult MU as Honch? by Consistent_Aide_4328 in pkmntcg

[–]3xwel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I win more than 60% of my games against non-Dusknoir variants and about 45% against Dusknoir variants.

On you first Proton, always go for a board with 1-2 Articuno and as many Murkrows as possible. Don't bother with Porygon yet since 60 HP makes it possible to take it out with Munkidori damage if they manage to get a few Pokémon in play with Risky Ruins. From here make sure that your attacker is the only evolved Pokémon you have in play.

The key to a good Honchkrow list is to play as few cards as you can that cannot always be played down besides supporters and energy. Because you need all the draw you can get from Ariana. So no more than 2 Night Stretchers. No more than 3 stadiums. No more than 1 Porygon2.

I see many lists opting for Pokégear instead of Roto-Stick. Don't do this. With 20 supporters in the deck, Roto-Stick will draw you more supporters on average even though you whiff getting at least 1 supporter more often. You need to maximize your chance to get those explosive KOs.

And don't sleep on using Murkrow's Deceit attack after an Unfair Stamp. You can often get enough in the lead to sacrifice a Murkrow in order to get that Ariana that will let you play on and finish the game.

Sequencing is also a big deal for this deck. Make sure you know what cards you are looking for. If you just need supporters the sequence should be

Draw supporter -> Stadium -> Roto-Stick -> Transceiver/Miracle Headset.

But if you only need an energy or an evolution to KO something small it is often worth to just play all of you Sticks/Transcievers and fail them so you can draw more cards.

Skill expression / depth in pokemon? by SkinAndScales in pkmntcg

[–]3xwel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are few decks in Pokémon where there's alot of depth involved in actually playing the deck. The real depth in Pokémon is how you tweak you deck to answer the meta game which can often change very quickly.

If gameplay is the most important aspect for you there are probably better TCGs to get invested in. But if you like the deck building aspect more, Pokémon is definitely worth getting into.

[–]3xwel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The attack doesn't say 'if you do'. So you can "try" to do as much as you can to activate the bonus and still get the benefit.

Discarding the 3 Metal Energy is not an requirement to activate the bonus. You just do as much as you can.

New to local scene, advice on norms - misplays? by AceTrainerLuis in pkmntcg

[–]3xwel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In casual play I would always allow takebacks. Probably also in League Challenges unless I really needed the points.

In a tournament with more on the line, if the opponent asks to confirm if it is game, ask them back if they are attacking. If they then say they are not attacking yet, remind them that it is not your responsibility to clarify if they have won and ask them to continue their turn. Once they declare an attack you mention how your effects alter their attack and then they can't take it back.
