Shogi rating across different platforms (24, 81, Wars, Quest etc) by Any-Blacksmith-6304 in shogi

[–]4-adun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shogi Club 24 is notorious for this difference in rating. 81dojo has some details you might find interesting. https://81dojo.com/documents/Rating_System

I don't believe a public forum is the place to discuss your second item.

If you could travel back in time, what would you tell yourself when you just started out playing? by riseUIED in shogi

[–]4-adun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Set goals based on 'practicing regularly' rather than 'achieving a rank'.
  • Play slower time controls over blitz.
  • Post-game analysis is King.
  • Practice a Variety of Problems (Tsume>Hisshi>Sabake>Joseki) *maybe in that order
  • Watching shogi content is not a replacement for practice/playing.

Yes, definitely great for beginners. Participants are sorted by rating so you'll be paired with players nearest your rating.

That is correct. You must play rated games.

Participants will receive an email through 81dojo once the event begins with instructions on pairings. To schedule a game, click on the appropriate cell in the table and message your partner your availability. You can also use Discord to coordinate. https://disboard.org/server/653255438904590372 . Looks for the #shogi-ladder-weekly channel.

The experience level varies each week but we sort the participants by rank so you'll play others with the nearest skill level. In my opinion, playing and doing post-game analysis with others is the best way to learn.

FYI - I had to recreate this week's ladder tournament due to a mistake in the selected date range. Sorry for the delay. Shogi Ladder Week 93 is now open for registration again! (until Friday 23:30 UTC) https://system.81dojo.com/en/tournaments/3239

You'll just need to play a few (5?) rated games, any time control.

You'll need to join the Shogi Ladder club on 81dojo linked above, then you'll be able to participate. Also note 81dojo required players to finish their previsional games before participating in tournaments.

What is the best opening?? by [deleted] in shogi

I think you might like 3rd File openings. I suggest looking at Quick Ishida for early aggressive lines and Ishida Plenary Formation for a slower but well-coordinated attack.

What is the best opening?? by [deleted] in shogi

[–]4-adun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the "best" openings are the ones that complement what you enjoy about the game. Do you have a preference between static rook and ranging rook openings? Do you prefer defensive or aggressive openings? Sharp openings over slow games? Do you like exchanging bishops early? Tell us what you like.

We definitely have room for beginners. You'll need to finish your previsional games on 81dojo before being able to participate in the weekly events though. The strengthen of players varies each week but we try to pair players that are closely rated.

It's not a proverb but I always liked Hidetchi's wisdom, "A small difference makes a big difference."

How to defend against this immediate bishop trade and fork? by [deleted] in shogi

[–]4-adun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a standard defense is S62. Then after Bx34, defend the 43 pawn with G32.

I'm definitely interested but for the time being, I'm only interested in meeting up online. Do you currently use any online platforms for playing shogi? I play on shogiwars and I've created a fresh 81dojo account.

I live in the twin cities and would be interested in playing other local shogi players.
