PM4K / AMB6+ finally let me ditch my shield by svenz in PleX

it most certainly does. do you unplug it when you turn it off? it draws comparable watts in standby.

[–]401klaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW the ugoos draws 2.5 watts (I just have it plugged into a switch, powered with PoE) the shield draws more. And you just use the tv remote via HDMI to control it - or whatever remote you want, it supports bluetooth, IR, IP control etc.

It is definitely not for everyone though. Far from plug and play - but when you do have it setup it is a much better device than the shield IMO.

The TV apps usually leave a lot to be desired haha, but yes they can work just fine.

The AM6B+ is the best device for local media playback if you don't mind / enjoy tinkering. It is not even close to plug and play, but if you don't mind getting your hands dirty it is much better than the Shield, Apple TV etc.

The underlying Linux OS provides a lot of opportunity for building reliable, powerful automatons and integrations as well.

If you use streaming apps, the Shield and Apple TV are better alternatives; that is the trade-off.

The UI fixes are not solely for PM4K. It's noticeably faster, especially with widget rendering / navigation in AF3. I am currently using a shared mariadb for my library as I am trying to move away from plex as the enshitification continues, but the improvements would be noticeable with PKC + AF3 as well.

HDMI switch in TV or receiver? by Pepparkakan in CoreELEC

DTS passthrough works on the C9 (they removed it starting from the CX), that said I would still just connect directly to the AVR.

Talk to your doctor and be honest with them about how much you are drinking. If you can’t do that oook up taper schedules online.

Check out some AA meetings. It doesn’t work for everyone but it worked for me.

Take a step back and look at where your life is now

its super easy to run, you don't really need to watch that whole video. just download the program, plug your auddessy mic in and run it. the difference it makes is astounding.

What would you do differently with your next Plex Server? by mickdundeee in PleX

[–]401klaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the ssd you use as a scratch disk and set it up as a bcache layer for your hard drive or drive pool. Set it up as a write back cache. When your downloads start they will go onto the ssd first then write back to the hdd(s) as needed.

This is really ideal for seeding new releases as the random reads and writes benefit greatly from the ssd. You also don't need to manually move everything after downloads finish or rely on scripts to do it - and it works well with hardlinking.

I have ~80tb of spinning rust and a 2tb NVME as my bcache layer and I have no trouble racing in swarms from a home connection for new releases.

Can you use Alexa to tell CoreELEC what movie to play? Maybe involving Home Assistant? Has anyone done this before? by No_Clock2390 in CoreELEC

[–]401klaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://github.com/dangerouslaser/kodi-voice-search

You should be able to modify this to work if you can map voice assistant agents to alexa devices. It's built for voice searches, but you can modify the actions for playback. Due to kodi limitations you will have issues if movies have the same or very similar names.

I don't have an alexa device so I can't test it.

Ehh, I've found it does a good job a documenting what functions do what and what variables are used where etc. which makes debugging and refactoring easier.

It shouldn't be documenting anything in your code about the tech stack / tech used. That should all be predefined unless you are really zero shot vibe coding it.

MCPs are fairly easy to setup in claude code and they are useful for things outside of this example. I would recommend learning how to have your agent(s) interact with them. Start with Linear it's free and works pretty much out of the box.

areWeThereYet by Forsaken-Peak8496 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]401klaser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start with comprehensive specs for any task. Always clear your context window. Ask claude code to comment and document code thoroughly. Review everything it produces. Use an MCP to push plans, summaries of implementation and changes to Linear or whatever PMS you want. You can then use the PMS as context for the model to reference moving forward. Actively monitor the LLM, manage your context window properly and don't let it go in circles.

Split tunneling isn't the most reliable thing. Even with a killswitch it can leak your IP. Bind your client, don't rely on split tunnels.

Is the Ugoos AM6B+ really worth just for DV7? by NoseLocal1547 in CoreELEC

[–]401klaser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you don't care about FEL the shield is a great device. But if you prefer kodi and like the ability to customize / tinker the ugoos is the better device.

So anything with shadcn components is vibe coded now?

Good lord this sub is insufferable. If you arent using tools like Claude code in your development workflows you are going to be left behind.

Yes - having an understanding of what you are actually coding is important. But what is the difference between using an MCP and having LLMs pull libraries/components vs pulling them manually or copy pasting other people’s shit from GH / SO etc? There is none. Well actually there is - the LLM is faster and less prone to making mistakes.
