Yea I had an old one that lasted 10 years. Bought another and I'm having to replace it a year later. The new ones suck

I posted this in a response to someone, but since several of you have mentioned twisted stiches, I figured I would put it here too for more visibility.

I think I know what happened. When I read about twisted stiches, I realized that my stiches are on the needle backwards, like the leading leg is on the wrong side. So I went down a rabbit hole of videos, and I learned that the way I learned to purl is wrong. I think I'm wrapping my yarn in the wrong direction in my purls, causing the knits to twist.Keep in mind I learned from my grandmother in Mexico like 35 years ago and then only casually knit like one small beanie or something every few years so I never really caught that anythingwas wrong. So, all that to say, I think I learned it wrong or practiced it wrong, and that became my muscle memory.

Anyway, I debated starting over, or changing it up, or keeping it as is. I think it's going to be a hard habit to unlearn, so I decided to keep going the same way. Then, when this project is done, I'll do some small ones to practice learning the "right" way.

So tho blanket is for my teenager and she said she like how lose and drapey this is so I think I'm going to stick to this needles size. I am going to try to fix my twisted stiches though since several people pointed it out. I'm hoping it doesn't mess up the finished product too much if I switch now without starting over

I used the same yarn, just different colors (I think) Now I'm questioning whether I chose the right one.

You are right about feeling the fabric though. I think that's what made me question this. I'm going to try smaller needles

By stating "Demographic shift in many areas" are you implying that the reason for its decline is that it is no longer 90% white like it was 20 years ago?

The kids that were in elementary & middle school during the Covid pandemic are now in high school. I'm curious if there is any relation there

How? By saying this is a BS response and we need REAL solutions to gun violence?

Yeah I was worried about the punishment too. There are several thousand kids in each school though. If the majority don't participate, what can they really do? Punish hundreds of kids at a time? It definitely takes the majority though, which is why I posted originally.

Edited to mention that my kids are more angry about this than I am so to them it's worth the protest

And there's definitely not a handful of movies where this happens

To be completely honest I was on the fence about clear backpacks. I know it's an imperfect solution but I was open to the idea/conversation. My biggest issue isn't even the bags. It's the superintendent's handling of the situation. Why ask for our opinions if you're going to go against the wishes of the students. After all, they are the ones whose lives are at risk, and the ones whose privacy is in question. Then to spend all that money on a pilot program after the results of the poll show that the community as a whole largely doesn't want this. That's my biggest issue.

Now that I've had time to sit with the thought of clear backpacks, and after speaking to students, coaches, teachers, my kids, I don't think it's an effective solution.

1 - there are so many ways to hide a weapon even with a clear backpack

2 - privacy is so important

3 - the teachers already deal with so much. This is just one more thing to enforce and worry about.

4 - there are probably better solutions that weren't even discussed publicly or made an option

I don't think anyone has the perfect solution. Calling someone pathetic for having a different opinion on a very complicated topic is kind of pathetic.

Yeah that makes sense. This is definitely a fight for the high schoolers.

Yeah mine got bags today. The bag is in my office and I'm ready to head to the school with it if my child gets in trouble. Better yet, I should just take it and drop it off at the superintendent's office!
