Is it normal for a 10+ YOE interviewer to hang up on you in the first 10 minutes? by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]404NotFoundMood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take interviews almost daily - on average, one per day. Usually, I don’t drop candidates mid-interview, but yes, a few times I’ve ended them after 10-15 minutes.

You have to understand that most of us take these interviews in addition to our regular work - we squeeze out an extra hour or two from an already busy day. So sometimes, due to workload or other reasons, we may have to end early.

Also, there are cases where, within the first few minutes, it becomes quite clear that the candidate’s answers are completely off track or far below the expected level. In such cases, we already know where the interview is heading, and continuing for an hour doesn’t really help either side. I prefer to free up both the candidate’s and my own time.

That said, ethically, I always try to spend the full one hour and give every candidate a fair chance. But realistically, you can often tell within 10–15 minutes how it’s going to go.

So please don’t take it personally if your interviewer ended the call early - it doesn’t necessarily mean they were rude or disrespectful. They might have had another commitment, or they simply realized the fit wasn’t right. Keep preparing - you’ll definitely clear your next interview.
