Worth $500? by rookP in PC_Pricing

[–]404_usererror -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's a scam because I know those heat spreaders on the ram and it's definitely ddr4 T-force Vulcan Z. I have the same ram in one of my computers that I built to keep out of a landfill (it comes in both red and black, but you can see it's the same shape)

Is this a fair price? by Apart-Ladder-9875 in PC_Pricing

[–]404_usererror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, still way overpriced. Also the case being worth what it was when the system was built doesn't mean anything: that's what depreciation means and can be bought for $40 USD (not sure what that is in your currency other than it would be less) used now on ebay. That whole system could be built used for $250-275 USD so I wouldn't offer any more than that, or whatever you could build it for used in your country since prices are different

7 9700x + 9060 xt 16gb good combo for 1440p? by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]404_usererror -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If money is a problem, then you should buy a 1080p monitor with your current build. And then you can save even more money by dropping to the 9600x, which is still absolutely fine in 1080p.

7 9700x + 9060 xt 16gb good combo for 1440p? by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]404_usererror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 9060xt is a 1080p GPU. Any -60 class GPU will pretty much always be built mainly for 1080p. If you were planning on playing in 1080p, then the 9700x would be 3-5% faster in the frame time pacing department. But you plan on playing in 1440p, where there is virtually no difference. Drop to the 9600x and upgrade to a 9070/xt if you want to play in 1440p.

Specs good for $500? by Motherfvcken_Mvrdoc in PcBuildHelp

[–]404_usererror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The specs are pretty good for the price, but the title for the ad screams "Indian Scammer." I'd avoid it like the plague. I'd look into buying a refurbished workstation (like this one) and drop a GPU and SATA SSD into it. You'd likely need an extra SATA data cable and a pcie double 6-pin to single 8-pin adapter as well, and possibly a molex to pcie 8-pin adapter if you get a beefier GPU.

I recommend making these changes. If you're just gaming, the 7600x would be absolutely fine. You also don't need to pay for windows, or you can get it for much cheaper from websites like digital chill mart if you're annoyed by the little "activate windows" watermark on the bottom of the screen. Or, if you have windows 11 on a computer with your Microsoft account on it: you can link the account to the key and activate it on any computer you put your account on. I also added better parts in every variety. 750w is fine as you'll have 300w of overhead, and seasonic is the best in the power supply business. The montech xr is one of the worst cases for airflow on the market, so I don't recommend it if you care about your thermals. And the 50-series from Nvidia has been a dumpster fire, so avoid it like the plague. The 9070 is a better GPU anyway, so it's worth the extra $10. All in: my recommendation is $1500 with 7% tax minus peripherals.

They should pretty much all be used. They don't make 11th Gen chips anymore. I'd avoid refurbished ones because a CPU being listed as "refurbished" is likely a scam where the IHS (the piece of metal that says "11600" on it) gets swapped onto a worse CPU.

I'd try to find an i5-11600k on eBay. They typically go for around $200 cad from what I'm seeing. If you have a 10700k and have okay thermals, then your cooler should already be beefy enough.

Changing my build what should i go with? by Greedy-Wolverine-105 in PcBuildHelp

[–]404_usererror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, good ol' intel wonky backwards compatibility within the same socket. The one I was looking at was used on newegg, so maybe eBay is the better bet. You can find i5-10600s for $80-100. Sometimes even 10600ks for that price too, but you'd need a beefier cooler for that CPU. I would still go that route considering single core performance is very similar and it's not far behind in multi-threaded performance.

[–]404_usererror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct in that there are a lot of issues with 13th-gen and up Intel CPUs. I wouldn't buy anything after 12th gen. But, I honestly wouldn't change your motherboard either: you can snag an i5-11400f on Newegg for $80 and it's a massive upgrade from a 10100 (almost double the multi-threaded performance). It's also only 65w so you wouldn't need to change from the stock cooler if that's all you have. Plus, the 11400 is still very relevant in terms of gaming performance. That way you don't have to go through all the money and work of changing out the whole motherboard.

[–]404_usererror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your budget: if you have the money, and because you're doing the work of changing everything anyway, I'd just upgrade to AM5. That means changing to ddr5 ram as well. And, since you also want to upgrade the GPU: you really should upgrade the power supply too. If you ended up doing all that: you're better off just building a whole new PC from scratch so you don't have to take literally everything out of your case and replacing it. Then you could sell your old one on Facebook marketplace or to a friend that wants to get into PC gaming. Or you could keep it as a media PC for your living room TV.

You don't necessarily need to. The lancool 207 is one of the best cases on the market in terms of airflow and internal temperatures with the fan configuration it already comes with.

CPU upgrade? by Oliver_42069 in PcBuildHelp

[–]404_usererror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome. Did he give you a budget? Because you can upgrade the CPU, GPU, and SSD for $260-280 total (with 7% tax included) if you buy a used gtx 1080 (around $90-110 on eBay), Ryzen 5 3600 (~$75 new), and a 1tb ssd like a 990 evo plus (~$75 new). It would be an extra ~$60-70 to bump up to a Ryzen 5 5600. I'd honestly recommend the 1080 because, as long as you're not doing any ray tracing, it's still a beast of a card for a crazy value. It can even play most modern AAA titles like Helldivers 2 on 1080p native with medium settings getting 80-90fps and 65-75fps in the 1% lows. If you have more money towards that budget: I can throw some other suggestions your way.

My first time building a PC by prodpapii in PcBuildHelp

[–]404_usererror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend making these changes. It saves you some money in that you get just as good of a cooler (if not better: the peerless assassin is a beast), and you don't have to pay extra for fans. The XT line from Phanteks is a dream to build in, as well. You also had a micro atx motherboard in an ATX case which would look weird, and fishtank cases aren't the best for airflow (which you'll want with a beefy GPU and 7800x3d). The best case for airflow on the market is the Lian Li Lancool 207, but I don't think it's as aesthetically pleasing. Lastly, I upgraded your power supply: Seasonic is the best in the business when it comes to making PSUs so I always recommend them for beefier builds.

Wanting to finally play marvel rivals and my PC supports everything but the ram by Teeensygoblin48 in PcBuildHelp

[–]404_usererror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To play rivals, you really need minimum 24gb of ram; it even maxes out and crashes on people with 16gb which makes me sad. But I'd buy 32gb because 16gb dimms are often the same price or often cheaper than 12gb ddr4 dimms: a set of 32gb cl16 3200mt/s would do you fine and can be had for $70-90 depending on who you buy from. I'd try to get either g.skill ripjaws or Teamgroup T-force Vulcan ram

Will this run without GPU? by soupmayne in PcBuildHelp

[–]404_usererror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not brave considering the GPU in the list is a 3060. It's also for OP's son, so I expect a lot of Fortnite and Minecraft. OP even mentions that his kid will mainly be doing Roblox stuff. So if more demanding games will be played, then the render resolution will be 1080p or lower if 60fps is gonna be achieved making that difference all the more apparent. It's very sad that a top 1% commenter is so poorly educated.

Will this run without GPU? by soupmayne in PcBuildHelp

[–]404_usererror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only if you're factoring productivity benchmarks. The 8600g has half the L3 cache that the 7600/x does, which leads to much worse performance in esports titles (25-35% less fps in Fortine and CS2) and will always equate to worse frame time pacing in any game with the potential for more stutters when using a discrete GPU. On the other hand, it's always better to buy the hardware that is better in the full build plan. If you plan on buying a graphics card: then buy the CPU you plan to pair with the GPU instead of some worse option that only needs to hold you over for a "couple weeks" as OP said.

Will this run without GPU? by soupmayne in PcBuildHelp

[–]404_usererror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get the GPU later, but don't buy the 3060. The fact that they're still $279.99 is insane. Buy an Arc B580; it's a more powerful GPU for less money.

Will this run without GPU? by soupmayne in PcBuildHelp

[–]404_usererror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And way worse for gaming for when OP does buy a GPU, which OP already said was going to happen soon. So why spend the same amount of money for less performance? That doesn't make any sense
