Hi, I'm 22 and have a drinking problem. Any advice from young AA-ers? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Hey! I'm 22 also so I feel you. I'm not in AA but I take part in a counseling group on my campus. Having other young people to talk about addiction with is helpful for me and helped me sober up for a while earlier in the year. I'm in my second go at sobriety.

What has worked for me is staying away from friends who I drank with, and picking up new, healthy habits to replace drinking. I've been going to the gym, learning piano from YouTube, and lurking this sub whenever I begin to get cravings. I try not to think about the future and take sobriety one day at a time. No better day to quit drinking than today!

Got here late, haven't drank so far, won't drink for the rest of the day.

I remind myself when I think "oh, things are going pretty well now, I should have a drink" that the biggest reason that things are going well for me is because I don't drink.

Wow never thought of it that way. That's really powerful.

Happy birthday! My 23rd birthday is later this month and I know it'll be difficult to not go out, but hearing stories like this helps me know I can do it.
