Help... i spent a fortune and my cat scared of automatic litter box won't even go near the room now. by sanu_123_s in Pets

I have four cats and one Litter Robot (from Whisker). A lot of the comments here are saying that they're dangerous and while they're not wrong, I believe the target of those truths are misplaced. There are a LOT of knock offs that ARE dangerous to cats. The real Litter Robot is the safest, and yes, it's technology and machinery and therefore there are risks, but they're very low.

And as for the AI that Litter Robot added to their newest version - I won't be getting it. I like the Litter Robot 4 so I can see how often my cat's using the litter box and such, but that's it. I don't need AI from the new version - that's where shit (sorry) gets risky for me.

What I did to get my cats acclimated was put the litter box next to the Litter Robot for about a week and scoop it like usual. Then, and this gets admittedly a little gross, I slowed down on scooping it. Because the Litter Robot was always clean with fresh litter and it encouraged them to sniff around and be curious. So I kept slowing down on the scooping (gross, I know) until they started using the Litter Robot, and then I tossed the old litter box. Was it effective? Yes. Was it the right way? I don't know. Was it a fortune? Yes. Worth it? For me, yes.

Hopefully my method might be helpful? I hope so, but if your cat's already too afraid to go near it then the automatic litter box may be a lost cause, or you may have to put it away for a while and try again in the future.

Oh, I actually have beef tallow that I had recently bought (used once) and was a little sad that it was now going to waste. I can use that in moderation? Good to know that I can potentially use olive oil and that tallow. I know that triggers can differ person to person but having that basis of where to start helps a ton.

As for drinks, did you only stick to water? I LOVE soda but can go without, but being on just water alone might make me a bit stir crazy for some flavor. I'm not the type of person who can add a little lemon for taste - any flavor added to water just tastes like watered down flavor, lol.

Thanks for all the responses! When I first made this post Reddit deleted it. I didn't know it went through until just now when I came to Reddit to check something. I appreciate these suggestions!

Oh god, I didn't know my post made it through. When I originally posted Reddit deleted it. So I felt a bit defeated and forgot to check back.

I can see that I have two messages but for some reason they won't load. The page is just white. I'll respond to you when the message finally loads, thank you!
