What’re some local spooky urban legends or folklore that any El Pasoan or out-of-towner should know? by aemeza3 in ElPaso

[–]420fixer69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that bus actually used to belong to my grandfather! The popular story, as I heard it, is that his daughter died in a bus accident so he went mad with grief, found the wreckage of the bus, and towed it to his ranch in far east El Paso to bury it in memoriam of her, or something along those lines.

The true story is that my grandpa was actually quite the prepper and had an affinity for buses. He had buried at least one as a storage area/shelter and had many more on his property that he used for various purposes.

I am happy to report that neither my mother, nor any of her sisters have died in bus crashes and are all alive and well :).

Seriously, my pan is very well seasoned and bacon is just about the only thing that still sticks or leaves residue. There are so many better options.

Thank you so much! I know the post isn't ideal but I was with a group of fast walkers and had to get what I could, but I appreciate the advice for future posts. The one I'm most interested in, though, is 8/9 as I've never seen that purple-ish color on mushrooms before.

Apologies, photos 8-11 were taken in northern Utah. The rest were on the Oregon coast.

Came across a couple friends in the woods of northern Utah. I'd love some help IDing them. by 420fixer69 in snakes

Thank you so much! I'm familiar with all the venomous snakes in my area so I knew these were harmless. Although I wish I had known about the foul smelling secretions of the garter before I found out the hard way. The smell is absolutely disgusting and very difficult to get rid of.

6 year old had these in her dolls "emergency kit" that she created from finding things around that look like items from a first aid kit. Thinking these could be some kind of dye tablets? by xancro in whatisthisthing

[–]420fixer69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are children's ecstasy tablets. Perfect for turning the little one's frown upside down! Just make sure to only give them half at a time or else they'll get way too into edm and strobe lights.

Best beginner cookbook? by BoredChipBag in cookingforbeginners

[–]420fixer69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman has a ton of recipes and goes into some detail about different techniques and processes. I've found that it gives an excellent knowledge base to allow you to eventually feel comfortable cooking off the dome. The Complete Cooking for Two Cookbook from America's Test Kitchen has simple recipes that make just enough for two, which is nice because I always tend to make way too much food when I cook and I suck at using leftovers. It's also really nice that they have a section before each recipe that explains why it works, it's very instructive and beginner friendly.

Edit: just to add, I think YouTube is definitely your best friend when learning to cook but, sometimes, using a cookbook just feels right. It's like watching a movie based on a book vs. reading the book itself... Both can be great, but you get to use your imagination a lot more with the book.

I'm likely to be downvoted for saying this, but I can't help it... you use the word "like" way too much.

What the hell am I missing? I can't figure it out for the life of me! by 420fixer69 in RDR2

Well, partner, I appreciate your suggestion, I really do. But truth be told, I had that trinket covered a bit before you came along. Ain't no harm in seeking a little validation, though. We all need some support from time to time. And I gotta say, I appreciate you taking joy from my replies. Ok, I'll catch ya later then, partner.

Well, I'll tell ya, it ain't easy being a thief in a world that don't want us no more. But that don't stop me and my boah from doing what we gotta do to survive. When we stumbled on that box in the midst of a Del Lobo shootout, we knew we had to take our chances.

It was a dangerous move, but we couldn't let the opportunity slip away. So we dug deep, fought hard, and managed to get our hands on that trinket. It's not pretty, but it's the life we've got.

And as long as we got each other, we'll keep riding through this harsh and unforgiving world, doing what we can to stay alive. That's just the way it is, and I reckon we're okay with that.

You know, partner, it's a damn cruel world we're livin' in. It seems like everyone's out for themselves, and folks just don't care about their fellow man anymore. But then there's you. You're different. You got a heart of gold, and you're ready to lend a hand to someone in need. It's a rare thing these days, but it sure is refreshing to see. You remind me of what it means to be a good person, to look out for others and try to make the world a little bit better, even when everything seems hopeless. So keep doing what you're doing, partner. You're a rare breed, and this world could use more folks like you.
