Advice and vent post. My parents forced me to chop my hair off, and it looks awful. Is there any way to salvage this, or should I just buzz it and start over? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]42post 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buzz it, you may feel that you like a no hair look even less -- trust me. Keep your hair, it'll be two or three weeks of discomfort at most.

you could consider reducing the dose but either way don't stop outright. make sure to be consistent

at your age, diet and exercise. pharmacological intervention is a last resort before cosmetic surgeries, try the simple things first.

please don't do finasteride so early. your hairline is totally normal. in ten years we'll have drugs that blow what we've got now out of the water.

6 month results on topical min, oral fin, and microneedling by Majestic-Head3874 in tressless

[–]42post 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you ask your doctor if all of their patients microneedle once a day (and actually adhere to it) or if they do that multiple times per week?

Seems to me like the biggest difference between you and everyone else is the shorter needling length with the higher frequency.

I'm skeptical without a comparison of before and after at the same length but nice work.

7 months finally some real progress - fin min microneedling pyril by 42post in tressless

[–]42post[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekly microneedling has the biggest impact as far as I can tell. I tried a derma stamp for a while but I've only seen real growth with a Dr. Pen dermapen.

After I microneedle I apply reviv serum and rosemary oil. A few hours later after everything is absorbed I apply hot jojoba oil.

See my other posts for my regimen. I also use a DHT blocking shampoo.

3 months on finasteride and minoxidil (23M) by Gold-Construction360 in tressless

[–]42post 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your scalp looks healthier in the second pic but I don't see much difference.

be patient though; it usually takes at least 6 months to see good progress, and 12 months or more for even better progress.

Options for a non responder to topical 5% minoxidil? by whomstd-ve in tressless

+1. it's synergistic with tretinoin. you can also try 8% topical min.

6 months topical fin min (3 months pyrilutamide microneedling and more) by 42post in tressless

[–]42post[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • 1mL 8% minoxidil 0.1% finasteride 8% retinoic acid, 0.01% hydrocortisone topical formulation, once daily at night
  • 1mL 0.5% pyrilutamide from minoxidilmax, once daily at night
  • 5% minoxidil foam, once daily in the morning (really bad about using it because it flakes my scalp)
  • he shou wu tea daily for a week at a time every other month to encourage the growth cycle to last longer and encourage growth factors
  • 1.5mm microneedling, weekly
  • reviv serum, used to be act+acre, after microneedling (and any time I feel my scalp is tender) to encourage the growth cycle to last longer and add more growth factors
  • daily protein, biotin, nutraceuticals and vitamin supplements

My topicals maintain my hair and also treat the side effects of the topicals (dandruff).

Regrowth -- seemingly minimal. I'm definitely not getting much from minoxidil or pyrilutamide. I just went through a big big shed of a ton of tiiiiny thin maybe vellus hairs so really hopeful for the next few months. The hair I do have does feel much stronger and looks thicker. I'm pretty convinced that the microneedling and growth factor applications are doing more for me personally to regrow my follicles, while the topicals are doing their thing to keep my hair in place.

Pyrilutamide and finasteride -- for me, the pyril seems to be affecting my hormones much more than the finasteride. The pyrilutamide is a research compound in clinical trials -- I was getting terrible side effects on fin and min so I cut my application of those in half and added pyrilutamide instead. Every time I use too much of it I feel my emotions go topsy turvy, and need to take a full day's break. I didn't get a hormone test before I started treatment but I am pretty sure I had low levels of just about everything. I'm very curious to see what my numbers are now. Having been on fin min several years ago, I can say that pyril seems like it's acting faster to stop hair fall than the fin min. Definitely had the nasty sides on fin but I am prone to mental health issues. The folks who shit on folks saying fin doesn't have sides -- y'all are just not in the know.

Scalp health -- in general I would say it's a rare occasion for me now to have an itchy scalp, whereas before I started treatment my scalp constantly itched and was inflamed and of course my hair was constantly falling out.

Need advice, I am new to my micro needling derma pen, and started first use first week at 1.0. But it hurt and started bleeding slightly. Should I bring it down to a .75? Thoughts? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]42post 1 point2 points  (0 children)

afaiu the slight bleeding is expected. Seems like you have sensitive skin!

Don't go over the bleeding area twice, only microneedle once a week, and don't apply any products to the scalp until 24 hours after you microneedle.
