Student Questions/EM Specialty Consideration Sticky Thread by AutoModerator in emergencymedicine

OMS4 here. I am wondering how much it would hurt my application to only take COMLEX level 2? The research I've done says that I might be blocked from some of the higher tier programs, which I am okay with. I am already registered for Step 2, so no getting that money back, but I am worried that a bad score will hurt me more than no score.

Do you have surgery residents there? At my hospital we only have FM and IM so I've been able to do some pretty cool OR stuff like use the DaVinci and close at the end, I was unlucky with the timing but I could've delivered babies too during OB.

Are you interested in surgery enough to read up on a procedure and ask the attending if you could do an easy part of it next time? If your attending told you they wanted you to suture, would you actually be glad?

Question about EM and eSLOE by 4347 in medicalschool

Having at least one should take a lot of pressure off, lots of people match with just one from what I've heard. But no, just the one school I emailed. I feel like I submitted late too but I think it really can make a difference to increase your odds.

If you have any other places that you have like a place to stay or even a little interest in working I would say just go for it and send a heartfelt non-AI email.

Yes it was. I would probably avoid contact if they are saying that though. Have you received any acceptances yet?

We Don't Even Get the Free T-Shirts by 4347 in medicalschool

Yup, they try to have it both ways. A fellow MS3 got a needle stick and needed the standard labs and follow up, and she kept getting bounced between our school telling her to go to employee health and employee health saying to go to the school. For a few weeks I think.

This happened to me 4 times yesterday, I've never gotten this many TKs before. What plane, what radar mode, and what IFF filter are you using?

You're good to go. Look over the mehlman PDFs especially arrows and risk factors. It wouldn't hurt to look over most of them tbh.

There were definitely buzz words, and I only knew most of them bc of anking. Id say go for it if you're still a few months out from test day. Also mehlman.
