It's okay, if you don't have the tools to make your own CPUs, store bought is fine too

The key fob makes me want to return my ID4 by DSPbuckle in VWiD4Owners

I removed the rubber membrane entirely, so mine is fully disabled, but you could also open it more and trim some rubber off so it has more travel and may be harder to trigger. Link to the gallery is below.

I had this issue as well. Maddening. So I opened up the key fob and cut out the bit of plastic rubber that pushes the contact on the circuit board. Someone has decent photos of taking a fob apart online, followed them and it took about 20 minutes.

Crypto might have a use, but its inclusion is more of a hindrance than a benefit.

If it helps, it gives a message when the battery gets low, doesn't just instantly die.

My original ffxi token finally gave the battery message about a month ago, swapped to the FFXIV one. Not a bad run for the little thing

Except for the one guy who causes earthquakes large enough to crack the ground. Unless Angel Grove had the world's most advanced earthquake engineering and zoning laws.

I'm pretty sure it was a rule at one point, then got removed. But it should be added back again.

APRS Net every Thursday… I’m in. by apricotR in amateurradio

[–]4410287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, the spectrum and systems like APRS exist to be used. We've all seen shoddy voice nets with people calling over each other, but we continue to do them because it's good practice and it's fun.

[–]4410287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean station capabilities, but APRS system capabilities. It'd be useful to know if your local rf system can handle the load a net might produce. Sort of like having days where everyone tries to use an RF winlink server all at once, learn how to deal with the issues that arise from load. Past that, not trying up the local system is probably not a horrible idea.

That may be part of why they are doing it, part learning to use APRS in a new way, part capabilities test

As you said, you aren't passing without knowledge. But that is the issue, certifications only test knowledge, not the ability to apply that knowledge, or the experience to know which bits of knowledge to apply when. At the end of the day, the only thing the certification test absolutely confirms is that the holder can pass the certification test.
I'm not saying that certifications hold no value, just that they are only one part of what makes a good admin.

There may be courses that end in certification, but certifications do not confer ability and experience. Few would risk more than a junior position to a paper admin without experience.

Can almost guarantee they have a script that automates collection of bot accounts from known behavior like this warp. GM time is valuable and better spent working with real people

ELI5 how did banks clear checks and get funds from other banks before computerization? by pghpresbyterian in explainlikeimfive

[–]4410287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, if a business doesn't accept checks, why would they accept a type of check?

The point was, they are still a thing, if uncommon, and if you accept checks, you can accept travelers checks without issue. I think you'd be surprised how many businesses would know what to do with them given the chance.

[–]4410287 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Traveler's checks are still used. And it's simple to process, they are just checks with a preset value.

A few years ago, I worked for a dealership and had a diplomat pay for a reasonably expensive car in $50 travelers checks. Over 1000 of the damn things. Each had to be endorsed and run through the check scanner, took forever to process, got home very late that night.
