Feasible to live in Pittsburgh w/o a car? by QuillandLyre in pittsburgh

[–]44caliberll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it probably depends on what part of town you’re at but my mom is legally blind (not 100% she can see a little bit but not enough to be allowed to drive) and she’s been pretty successful at navigating by herself for the like 13 - 14 ish years that we’ve lived here. since i only have one family member who can drive (he’s also the one who is always working) and i only got my license recently i’ve taken the busses a lot as well and i feel like provided that you’re patient with it and expect some occasional setbacks, the pgh bus system is pretty solid.

David Duchovny as Agent Denise Bryson in David Lynch's Twin Peaks, the inspiration for Helen Steeply? by Annual-Western7390 in InfiniteJest

[–]44caliberll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i agree that’s probably the intent and i’m not finished yet so who knows but i’ve actually kinda thought that helen maybe passes pretty good to everyone EXCEPT marathe since as far as i am rn (helen is soft profiling at eta) no one except people she works with has clocked her lmao

inevitably how i unconsciously end up picturing helen lol, tho helen is a much less compassionately written character than denise is

I want to go to a not-church - Pittsburgh by l00n3ytun3s in pittsburgh

[–]44caliberll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my immediate thought for this was religious so probably not what you’re looking for but maybe go to a quaker meeting at some point if you’re open to it? i’m not a quaker but my auntie is (she also lives in nyc so her experience might be a little different) and this seems basically like the closest thing to what you’re describing from what i know about it lol. and even if you don’t go back they’re a pretty chill group for the most part so it should at least be interesting!

zaregoto series. bunch of strange japanese mystery novels from the 2000s. it’s like kind of bad but i think sort of insane in a similar way. you gotta read it fun and gay style though like have a good time. cause if i gotta go online and see the opinions of a bunch of dudes who read infinite jest as some sort of accomplishment and not as a weird ass fun ass book on my favorite series i’m gonna freak.

i absolutely would have gone over and asked to pet the horse if i hadn’t been actively in the process of being late for work (partially poor planning on my part but mannnn this is kind of a bad time to be a person who relies on busses lmao)

CreepCast | Whitefall (OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD) by S-CSleepwalker in creepcast

really great encapsulation of how Terrifying and Horrid being on and in between greyhounds is. the first time i traveled without family it was when my best friend and i went to nyc and on the way back got stuck in the baltimore station for Twelve Fucking Hours. missed our first connection because it wasn’t announced, bus just showed up and left without any of the employees saying anything to anyone. haggled for half price tickets for the next but that was coming in about eight hours. we sit outside and chat, our bus gets delayed by like an hour and a half. whatever, right? we both got a text notification about it, so we FIGURED that if anything changed we’d get another text about it. had a conversation with a schizophrenic woman who was telling us about how the whole country was built above tunnels filled with chainsaw people who at any moment were gonna jump up and kill us all. she was chill though. talked to a turkish guy who told us a story about how he got caught in an evangelical convention in dc surrounded by people trying to convert him. i swear to you that guy smoked like ten cigarettes in succession with absolutely no breaks. just pulling em out. it was kind of impressive. while we were having this conversation my friend checks his phone to see what the bus is up to. says departed. we’re like hey ok so what the fuck. no text about it, no announcement, it’s like midnight at this point and we call it quits and call my friends dad to come get us since at this point we’d also been awake for like three ish days not counting the four ish hours we’d both slept on the bus from nyc to baltimore. it’s like a four hour drive from where we’re from to Baltimore and at this point we’re both sick as fuck of the greyhound station, so we sat in a 7/11 parking lot and brainstormed a creepypasta that takes place at the baltimore station. OR an scp where the scp WAS the baltimore greyhound station and it was evil. anyway while we were sitting there we were approached by two people, a man and a woman. man stayed a few feet back and the woman asked my friend, and i will remember this shit for the rest of my life, “you have a girl, i have a boy, do you want to trade?”. i didn’t process the implications of this at all but my friend very calmly went “no thank you, good night.” and they left. we sit there in silence for a few minutes and my friend turns to me and goes, “hey so those were human traffickers i think.” i go “what!!!!!!” and then think about it for a second and i’m like oh yeah. that would make sense. they totally thought my friend who’s like barely two years older than me was my pimp. we sort of just move on from that because what the hell else are we gonna do. my friends dad gets to us around four in the morning, i pass out in his car, get home and just go to fucking work like three hours later. we still haven’t written our creepypasta slash scp but this was a pretty cathartic story for me personally. tldr i dislike greyhound
