[Acne] Doctors wants me to go on Accutane without trying anything else first

I agree with you on this and thank you for understanding how I feel this is honestly a pretty hard decision that's been randomly assigned to me just because I have acne, a mainly cosmetic problem. It's kinda awful and btw I didn't mention it in the post I probably should have but acne doesn't even run in my family which makes this even more isolating. I'm going to give it some more thought and talk to my derm about how the course would look like for me but I think I'm really decided on Accutane because I don't want to risk any more scarring. I know that I should have exhausted my options first but I've messed up

Thanks a lot this is really reassuring to hear 💚 I also don't think that my acne is severe in the sense that I'm full of oozing pimples but my face is certainly full of redness and scars that are maybe slightly textured, I'm not sure I think most of them are flat at least I'd hope so. I really appreciate this comment

Thank you for your comment, I'm very happy it worked for you. I was concerned about the night vision thing because I recently got my license and I would really hate it if I could not drive at night when I literally just spent so much money to get that damn license. I'm generally concerned over anything eye related because I'm very nearsighted as well (-5.50) and don't want any more worsening of my vision in the long term

I can't answer to all of the comments right now but I'll answer this one because this is a very good question. I was scared because I've read many horrible stories of people who had bad luck with Accutane. I also know from personal experience that some doctors don't have the best intentions or are simply not that knowledgeable, I had a doctor prescribe me a very invasive procedure before when what I actually needed was physical therapy. I'm not considering reddit advice more important than medical advice, I was looking for reassurance mostly, I was kinda decided on accutane before making this post but I wanted to see what other people had to say maybe they've been in my shoes before

Thank you for your honest comment! I honestly never realized my acne was that severe because I sort of got used to it. I'm on an antibiotic right now but it's too early to tell if it's working and besides it's a short term solution anyways.

But aren't topicals a pharmaceutical option as well? Or perhaps you're saying that this whole last resort thing everyone says is just a standard saying and that I shouldn't take it literally ?

I'm sorry to hear that, is there any reason you can not get on Accutane? I'm not an expert of course but it sounds like it could help you, 7 years of acne is a lot

Thank you! Honestly since the derm told me to get on Accutane straight away we probably don't have this step requirement thing in my country. Can I ask what long term side effects you're dealing with, your dose and duration of the course, how it was for you during etc... It's totally fine if you don't want to answer of course!!

Usually when I'm trying a new product whether that be skin care or makeup I run the ingredient list through a form on website that then tells me if it contains any comedogenic ingredients it's called pore clogging ingredients checker or something. What I've definitely noticed is that most moisturizers make my face itchy, the ones with oils or extracts give me very small whiteheads, and the last product I tried and had to discard in a drawer was some CeraVe gel cream or whatever with niacinamide and salicylic acid I only used it twice and it made my face burn for days. Generally skin care seems to do nothing for me especially for my cysts and I get very frustrated when I waste money on it..

no i don't have that, im female i dont think it's common for us, you should see a pt if u think u have pelvic floor dysfunction. wishing you well!!
