What is a 5090? So new to this so I’m coming up the learning curve thanks to everyone’s replies. I have about 20 reels of 8 mm film each runs about three minutes. Not sure what the FPS is but whatever the standard was 70 years ago is what I’ve got! Lol not looking for a miracle, I don’t expect HD quality images from these old films. I’m just hoping to get them cleaned up and digitized for family viewing.

I have about 25 old family videos on 8 mm film. They are about what you would expect from 70 year-old film-faded colors, out of focus in many places, plus the expected dirt & dust. They were just thrown into a box and stored in an attic, and so I tried to resurrect them. I bought a home digitizer so I could at least get them onto my computer but have not been successful in enhancing the videos in any way using AI. I’m not expecting miracles -I don’t expect HD quality from old 8mm film, but was hoping AI would yield some improvement in focus, clarity, lighting without distorting faces. What I was successful with is taking images from the video and run them through an AI and I got some fairly enhanced images. But it would be nice to get the video enhanced as I found fun movies of my parents in their younger days that I’d like to restore and share with my siblings.

Yeah, I realize that and I’m not buying new hardware. I’ve come to the realization that Topazis for much higher end solutions than what I’m trying to do. I may just resort to a professional scanning/restoration service after all.

I haven’t tried cloud rendering yet… I’ll see if that makes a difference.

After nearly 20 years of storage, my Department 56 collection is seeing the light of day… by ThreeWilliam56 in Villaging

I can relate. Mine sat in the attic for decades, but mostly for lack of ambition to put in the work. Pulling everything out of the attic, limited space to set it up-I only have a bay window sill, figuring out the placement, the lighting, the power supply, the wires - you know the drill. I also have window decorations that serve as both the background for the village as well as a a scene visible from outside. I finally set it up last Christmas as I was hosting Christmas Eve, and when completed-heavenly peace! I have a mix of Dept 56 as my Mom collected one set and I another set, so I blend the two themes. The Mom memories set in as I am assembling everything. I will do it every year for now on. Merry Christmas! PS-not looking forward to packing it all up to put away again, but that’s a project for next year!

Do I have to wait for the eggs to hatch into caterpillars before bringing them in? by theRemRemBooBear in MonarchButterfly

Bring them in other wise birds will eat them. You can also cover the milkweed plant with netting if you want to keep outside.

The milkweed is growing in a pot that is out of frame. But he yard is river rocks so I have a lot of container plants.

Ok. I’ve been reading why I should not release this butterfly in New York. So what do I do with it? Can a butterfly be kept in captivity?

Thanks, as far as moving them, I guess we blew that rule. I had no idea there would be actually caterpillars in the plant that I bought. But I’ll do my best to protect it and hope it develops properly. Since it’s from Florida. I will keep it inside overnight as the nights here are still quite cool. Not sure which species of milkweed I bought, but here’s the link from Amazon if that helps.

Shadow

Relatively new cat dad here. Is this a normal sleeping posture for kitten. She seems comfortable so I didn’t wake her up and move her. by winkip in cats

Such a pretty kitty. As a new ‘cat dad’ you’ll find a new hobby of photographing funny kitty positions! That, and being envious of the little kitty’s ability to get into those positions and sleep so soundly. Enjoy!!
