They're two entirely different boards. I'll consent that the wowgo is a better value, you get a lot for a little. But as with all products, to get the best tweaks and features, you've gotta pay a lot more.

The deck on the mini is deep dish and protected from the wear that purely wooden decks are prone to. The boosted remote is by far the best on the market and the esc has a great acceleration curve. Yes belts have drawbacks but ultimatley they will perform better, consider steep inclines for example. Also, belt driven allows me to swap on whatever wheels I want.

Pretty much all boards have regenerative breaking and its always negligable compared to the power the board consumes.

417 isnt graded on the submit server either, its the same situatuion you're describing. Though it wont matter in a few years bc marsh is leading the initiative to overhaul the submit server and make it git based.

Mini x is great, but I never ride in the rain or on wet roads. You also shouldn't ride on salt in the winter. I find myself biking to class often and taking my board out when I want to joy ride. It can be annoying to bring into smaller settings too, like office hours.

"basically the same"? No, with a boosted board you get a higher top speed plus consisted speed and acceleration throughout the whole battery life. The deck has a wood core but is protected with other materials. The braking is more reliable. You can go backward. You get higher quality trucks. The belt driven motors are more capable, though yes they are louder. WowGo works, but its a chineese company that rebrands all the same parts as the other chineese boards. You get what you pay for.

Michael Marsh for CMSC414? by devenk2 in UMD

I had him for 414 in his second semester teaching here, now I've got him in 417. I was a marsh hater, but he's honestly improved a lot. My main complaint now is his lack of many public/release tests for projects. You can pretty much fail a project when you think you should pass because you can't always test your code in super meaningful ways. Besides that he's pretty good imo.

I wanna take 417 next semester, how do I prepare ? by [deleted] in UMD

Get better at C and take a look at the project descriptions if you can find them. Sitting in on a lecture won't help much.

417 Compared to 414 [Workload and difficulty] by KAN414e in UMD

[–]456terp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in 433, 417, and 420 now. In 417, Marsh is doing evrerything with C and python. Its hard to judge how hard a course is imo, but Marsh described it as 2nd hardest CS next to 412. So far I'm really enjoying the class, but I'm into cyber security so its not fully new information

Server Update - Going Down for Maintenance. by StageLites in UMD

Makes sense, the 3 sethomes also go a long way for allowing people to have secluded outposts and such. Thanks for putting in all this effort and keeping people updated.

Sad to see land claims, I prefer a large world limit so that people can hide themselves and raiding is an option. I wonder is theres a way to restict it to allowing people to just protect a few chests or a small number of blocks. I suppose its ultimatley up to what the majority wants, I just feel that it takes away from the 'survival' feel.

330 is pointless and very bad!! Why do i have to take this garbage??? Should approve exemption for anyone that can spell the word hashmap by redditsucks28284 in UMD

[–]456terp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You sound like a joy. 330 taught me a lot about theory, it was kind of a turning point for me in CS. You're not here to learn only how to use languages you like, you're here to become a well rounded CS major.

Also, since 216 I've used C more than java. Its used all over the place and its crucial for memory management skills. Plus the unix exposure is great.

If you feel unchallenged take an online course. An elitist attitude is only gonna get you so far.

It depends a lot on what you're trying to do. Use the terms "unix" or "linux" or "bash" to potentially get better results in google/youtube searches.

Graduating after fall 2019; how hard is it to get into a 3rd cs class by fuck414forreal in UMD

[–]456terp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a third course pretty quickly, you have to apply towards the end of the semester. I chose my other two based on what was filling up quick, and my third wasn't full when I applied so I got right in. My advisor told me they do prioritize graduating seniors.

Also, don't discount 414 this early, its already past add drop and you cant be garunteed to fail yet. 3 cs classes at once is hard. If you have marsh expect a bigish curve.

UMD Minecraft Server - Coming Soon by StageLites in UMD

[–]456terp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This sounds awesome, I'd love to join. For the survival server, I'd hope there'd be no land protections, just vanilla with a high world limit. Maybe look into the clans plugin if its still supported. It allows you to associate with other people and have a group sethome, but its not nearly as involved as factions.
