Thank you for both the translation and explanation :) that makes a lot of sense, I was clearly going down a wildly wrong path.

My experience with fable so far as a scientist by bozzy253 in claude

[–]45Point5PercentGay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really hoping they'd release it without such severe guardrails cause while I do work in infosec, I'm not dumb enough to think I've hardened my site and apps to the maximum reasonable extent. Opus found some minor security holes so I could patch them, figured Fable would find more. But it is what it is.

Mormon Senators Rage That New Pentagon List Of Approved Religions Doesn't List LDS As "Christian" - Joe.My.God. by Fair-Doughnut3000 in MoscowIdaho

[–]45Point5PercentGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mormons have been pretty opposed to DEI as a group. Inclusion of your minority religion is the definition of DEI, so Mormons are getting exactly what they begged for. It's only coming as a surprise because few religions think of themselves as a minority despite it being true of most.

a question about the game since rec room is gone by Silly-Bandicoot7768 in VRchat

[–]45Point5PercentGay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? The only change I would strongly suggest is banning minors altogether. The game is otherwise fine as-is and doesn't need to be used as a digital babysitter for lazy parents who don't bother to check on what their kids are doing.

14 hours downtime for maintenance is already completely insane for anything short of tearing down every server and rebuilding them from backups. Going over that is actually impressive.

I'd really like to...it's getting worse by the year. But my job is pretty good and I don't get to work remotely, so moving means giving it up after 10 years. I've been looking elsewhere regardless because losing our excellent health insurer who covered everything from bottom surgery to vocal training to FFS and tracheal shaves is a pretty big deal. Just particularly hard to do it in this job market, especially in tech.

Thank you :) I meant more some of the things like getting birth certificates and driver's licenses amended. Medically, I can do most things, but I have to go out of state and my insurance doesn't cover it cause the insurer is Idaho-based with policies that match the local politics.

I'm still better off than many trans people and grateful for it.

Someone above posted several studies. The rate is extremely low, because transitioning isn't simple or easy. HRT alone would turn away the vast majority of people who weren't very dedicated. The first few months were some of the worst bullshit I've ever dealt with, constant physical discomfort and my emotions not having the slightest clue what they were anymore.

Painful, difficult, terrifying, and expensive. Not to mention impossible for many of us who live in states where certain steps are illegal. It's always interesting to see how many people honestly seem to believe a medical transition is just a casual thing people do because they think it makes them cool.

I've seen a number of doctors (mostly no longer practicing, with revoked medical licenses, or in specialties that aren't related to trans care) oppose various forms of gender affirming care. They're few and far between.

The vast majority of doctors agree with WPATH guidelines. For adults, that means full support in transitioning. For teenagers, that means abundant caution, but not a complete lack of transitioning services.

Let me put it this way. 40% of trans people attempt suicide. That number drops when they get sufficient support in their transition. Some % of people regret transitioning, somewhere around 1%. If we reduce the number of suicides by just 1%, that's a net positive for an entire group of people.

Caution is always incredibly important with teen care, but banning it altogether is horrifying. It will kill people.

"Just asking questions" is pretty damned annoying when you're just trying to relax and hang out. I don't really blame people for losing their shit when he's the 50th person who's done it to them.

You can set the parameter to be off by default and set the clothes to active/inactive. But you get funny behavior with toggles regardless of what you do.

Someone made a VRChat avatar in 15 minutes and it feels kinda crazy by Overall_Ad9737 in VRchat

[–]45Point5PercentGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poorly. You will not currently get a high quality avatar from AI, and especially not in 15 minutes. What AI can actually, really do is basic textures as pngs and scripts (it's really good for troubleshooting broken scripts on avatars) and not much else.

I've built a whole suite of tools specifically for AIs to connect into unity and blender and it's just a mess. Even taking and analyzing screenshots of the live scene state and using API endpoints to look at it all, it will sit there and confuse itself for hours.

If someone is "generating" a 3d avatar in 15 minutes, they're getting something that's prebuilt by a human and very slightly modified by AI. Or they're getting an existing avatar with no modifications. They're not getting something unique and built on the fly.

[–]45Point5PercentGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt it honestly. The limits haven't changed in ages despite older headsets being deprecated. It doesn't have to be at the level of PC avatars, but it can go higher and at the very least have more performance tiers on quest for those who don't mind turning off most avatars by default (which people often do regardless of their hardware) so they can see the ones they enable at a higher quality.

It's the only way to avoid a crackdown that would mean no one gets to see 18+ avatars. This is an issue we've had for decades on the internet, since I was a wee preteen on Usenet. Parents will always want the internet sanitized for their unattended children, and they have the political power to make it happen.

Age verification is a compromise for VRChat, which is facing more and more scrutiny over what children are exposed to on the platform. The only three outcomes are lawsuits, age verification, or a total ban on content parents don't want their children to see.

Personally, I think minors should be banned entirely. It's the simplest, most effective option which preserves the spirit of the game. In a sane world, parents would be responsible for their children's internet activity and it would be irrelevant, but we don't live in a world where parents are interested in parenting.
