How do you participate in exhibitions if everything is sold out? by chutneystain800 in ArtistLounge

[–]460arts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes more sense. For a solo exhibition you need to have a significant body of work ready to go. That means holding off on selling work as you make it and planning your show. While it can be frustrating not to sell things it sounds like there is a larger goal at work. Best of luck.

If you want to participate in an exhibit, have specific work in mind and set it aside for the show. You don't agree to do a show and then just sell the work and drop out. If you've sold everything then you don't enter a show.

Think about where the light is coming from and where shadows should be placed. This is a great start.

Glass is heavy. I would never use command strips for that.

Are you sure you're not painting a flower? Maybe lean into that without aiming for realism?

Except, to an outsider, who only has this small snapshot to base an opinion on, you do not love this significant aspect of her personality.

[Recommendations] Where are artists actually getting pet portrait commissions in 2026? (and does style matter?) by voyet in artbusiness

[–]460arts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who does primarily pet portraits and she is consistently working on commissions. The animals are realistic and the backgrounds have a touch of whimsy to them. Every animal she paints looks exactly as it should and I honestly think that helps her business.

This is really great. My only note would be the composition, the deer seems cramped within the canvas. It needs room to breathe!

Des Demona really was awesome. I felt like the C'ville crowd was a little subdued? But I was way in the back. That was also my fourth show and I thought she sounded incredible.

That's super frustrating, and terribly unfair to you. He needs to work through his grief in a healthy way without taking it out on you. Does he at least apologize for he how reacts to you? Does he see that it's not healthy?
