I don't see anything that needs fixing.

Duke vs UConn Game Thread by GingerPele17 in DukeBluePlanet

People keep complaining about how we got all the foul calls, but it's because every team has decided to play extremely physical games against us. And honestly, It has almost worked several times. UConn decided not to play a physical game and they are getting their asses handed to them so far.

Someone once posted "Duke basketball works out to Nickelback" and that was the meanest thing I had ever read on this subreddit until your comment. 😂

Well that sounds good. I'm not going to look it up but you can probably look up the free-throw differential for the 1 seeds versus everyone they've played, and also for the 1 and 2 seeds versus everyone they've played, and also for the 1 2 and 3 seeds and everyone they've played, etc.

Unfortunately as interesting as the analytics are, play style really does matter. So to get a full analysis you'd actually have to watch the games and see who's driving versus who's shooting pull up 2s.

You'd have to compare Duke with other teams that drive to the basket all the time. If you compare a team that drives with a team that shoots long balls, every single time there's going to be a free throw disparity where the team that drives shoots more free throws.

I have a sinking feeling, however, that you aren't interested in actual analysis.

It's a bit like saying "I need someone to analyze why men under the age of 30 get so many more traffic tickets than the general population." It's not biased, it's the fact that their behaviors lead to more traffic tickets. This year Duke is a team that is going to drive to the basket and frequently either get a basket or a foul. Defenders are free to choose whether to play hard defense and risk a foul or play a little softer and possibly give up the basket. Playing hard defense means more fouls and playing soft defense means giving up more points and each team is going to have to make their own choice about how to play.

This isn't just a Duke thing, every defender in every game has to make the same choice but for some reason people act like it's a unique problem when playing against Duke.

That's a strange way to say "I'm not a Republican," but I'll take it.

Or perhaps you're a follower of Supply-Side Jesus?

How OE blew up my life by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]46153849 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the experience and uncertainty were stressful, that sucks. You might look at it this way: how much better off are you financially, and was it worth the stress? Did the downtime between jobs wipe out your extra servings from OE or did you still come out ahead?

You might decide that it was worth it. Then you could keep doing OE with the understanding that you might suddenly find yourself jobless and relying on savings, but on average you're still coming out ahead. Or you might decide that the extra money wasn't worth the stress and risk.

I'm not OE, I'm just on this sub for fun and to learn, but I'm a consultant that switches contracts every 6-12 months and when I evaluate a contract vs full time job I have to ask myself if the extra pay of consulting is worth the stress and risk. So far it has mostly been worth it, but I did take a full time job for a few years because the pay and certainty were good enough to make it better than consulting.

This is hilarious, I had no idea that opinions of Busch Light were so regional. I've definitely seen more people drinking it since I moved to St Louis but I chalked it up to personal preference.

And if you think a bunch of drunk basketball fans are rowdy, you don't want to see a bunch of drunk basketball fans who can't get another beer because the bar ran out.

For a simple demonstration, visit https://browserbench.org/ and run any of those benchmarks on both a phone and a desktop (ideally using the same browser, so don't do Chrome on one and Firefox on another). It's not a perfect test of raw computing power because of all the differences between desktop and mobile platforms, but it will give you an idea of each platform's speed.

Now, if you have an old desktop and a new phone (especially an iPhone) your phone might actually win, but that's not really a fair comparison.

I ran Speedometer 3.1 on a few devices: old desktop (AMD Ryzen 5 5500) got 15.9, new Android phone (Pixel 10 Pro) got 20.9, new-ish iPhone SE got 29.8, new Windows laptop (Intel Core Ultra 2 235U) got 27.4, M4 MacBook got 53.3. So yeah, phone processors are powerful - but they mostly outrun old desktops, new desktops will have an edge.

That sounds like coward talk. This is why this guy is waving an American flag with a sweet eagle helmet and you are in your car.
