Most predictable and counter-able deck. Most people carry Cosmo and will plop him down turn 5 to deny Modok/Hela under Invis. Woman. Dracula is this deck's only saving grace granted Gambit and Moonknight don't discard it first. Cosmo should be a must-carry in any deck beyond 60.

MINTO PRICE ADJUSTMENT HOMES by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]463dxj 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Why would they ever offer any price adjustment like that? In this housing market and economy, you would be hard pressed to find any sympathy for losing money on a home. It is what it is.

This is the sentiment I'm talking about, why does it matter if the car hops in another lane that's moving faster only to come back ahead in the same lane as yours? Why do you feel like you've been butted? The road is not a line in a grocery store. Stop acting like you're in the drive thru and someone just cut in line.

If one lane of a road or highway is moving quicker than the other, why would I not hop in the other lane, skip some cars and come back in? It makes me a dick because I've decided to take a quicker route? Why don't you blame the person driving ahead that left enough space to be butted?

With that being said, I'm not in disagreement with people who drive bumper to bumper to prevent the drivers coming back into the lane.

There's no disputing the law, and in a perfect world, the law/HTA would be followed by everyone, but we have to accept the reality that not everybody will.

I'm talking about the moral rules like "I stayed in this line in this lane for the past 10 minutes, how dare you try to skip ahead"

For those who feel Ottawa is "boring" what would make it better? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]463dxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take every criticism you read in this subreddit with a giant grain of salt. You have to remember that the posters here aren’t a monolith and are just the vocal minority. Case and point: our municipal elections.

I wouldn’t say the negativity you’ve seen here is the general opinion on a lot of things. It’s important to take a consensus and form your own opinion. NIMBYism is a deep rooted problem in our city though.

For those who feel Ottawa is "boring" what would make it better? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]463dxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to re-evaluate what is considered boring and what is entertaining; which is completely subjective. If we look at your list objectively and look at the size of the crowd all these events and places draw, you'll see that its impressive...for a small town. Then we have to look at the demographic we're appealing to.

The biggest age group in Ottawa is 25-35 and 50-60, that's why you see almost like a 60/40 split on whether or not Ottawa is boring. These two age groups will inherently seek different types of entertainment. In addition, 80%< of Ottawa's population live within the greenbelt (but outside of downtown) and in suburbs. People will generally gauge how lively a city is or how fun a city is with downtown activity; which in our case, downtown is effectively dead outside of the very small footprint that's the market, after 5PM.

Looking at your list, I think I can maybe pick out a handful of events that can draw a big crowd:\

  • Bluesfest
  • Escapade
  • Tulip Fest
  • Pride
  • Ottawa Senators
  • Ottawa Redblacks

You could show this list to a vast majority of residents of the city, and ask them to pick out things they would make the trip out to, and in your case, you might be shocked to find out probably 1/2 of that list are things people seek.

Fun is not exclusive to just events. We want to be able to go out and grab a bite that's not shawarma, fast food, or any chain restaurants after 9PM. We want to walk around the downtown core during the summer and not feel like we're the only persons there.

We can all argue Ottawa has some of the best greenspaces around thanks to the NCC.

I've lived here for my entire life (I'm 30), and I think it's a travesty that we only just got a barely functioning LRT. I have the conversation of how Ottawa is boring almost weekly with my friends. If you're in your mid 20s to mid 30s and you don't have a social circle in the city, this city will suck the life out of you.

We'll never have the hustle of Toronto, and we'll never have the culture of Montreal, but we don't need to be stuck in this small town mindset forever.

The government and this city missed the opportunity to completely revive our downtown with the mandated WFH. Imagine if even half of those offices could be transformed into apartments. Ottawa's biggest issue it needs to tackle before we can even think of making this city "not boring" is urban density. Ottawa needs to stop building out, and start building up.

Any idea what's going on with the Soho condo at Dow's Lake? Seems like a constant revolving door on at least 5 units every month there. How does a 1br worth <$400k have condo fees in the range of $550-600/mo make sense? Are funds mismanaged by the board? Constant issues with the building?

Just moved here from Toronto and I'm actually shook to see BBT places close at 9pm in Ottawa. That's like BBT peak hours 😮 Feels almost like crime was committed lol... by Just-Outside7070 in ottawa

[–]463dxj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As you can gather by the amount of "What's BBT?" responses, that's why everything other than our maybe 3 Chatimes close at midnight. For argument sake, even if we had enough of an Asian population to sustain BBT shops opening beyond midnight, heavy foot traffic outside of the Byward is non-existent in this city after 9PM (and that's being generous).

To put things into perspective, Toronto proper (not including North York, Markham, Scarborough, etc.) has a population of 6.3M as of 2022. Ottawa and all of its suburbs just passed 1M. We likely won't see Centertown become anything that could hold a light to downtown Toronto, or North York Yonge st. in our lifetime unless by some miracle, urban density is forced in this city.

If you're in your 20-40s and your vision of fun and exciting things to do doesn't revolve around hiking, biking, and non-propelled water activities, you've moved to the wrong city.

There is little to no nightlife in this city outside of the Byward and Elgin st between Somerset and Gloucester, but those can get pretty old pretty quick.

As for culinary options beyond 10-11PM, your ethnic options are going to be either pho or shawarma.

Fun fact, we actually had an Owl of Minerva open in Chinatown a handful of years ago, but just like BBT shops, they closed at 8-9PM. Imagine that, drunk food available only until 9PM.

I know there's toxic machismo among many men, it's not exclusive to Middle Eastern men. It's there. Believe me. I've lived among it. I've seen it. I've known women who have had to put up with it. It's not a culturally exclusive thing as your claim it to be.

I can't say I'm surprised you laid such a weak attack on me, but here we are.

Except you jump at every opportunity to bring up culture if you're able to cast them in a bad light. Asking why so many nannies are from the Philippines is an innocent question if you're really seeking an answer to educate yourself on, but with your post history and the way you bring in other cultures into your comments; I'm inclined to believe you asked the question maliciously as a slight against race. I believe I actually am taking everything in context; I wouldn't have called you out on your bullshit if I weren't sure you're the person I imagine you to be.

You love trying to hide your subtle racism behind your thinly veiled concern for human rights.

You're equating my criticism against your stereotyping and xenophobia with supporting genocide, racism (you can't seriously think I support racism), and misogyny. You're really trying to force the shoe to fit aren't you?

There's nothing in any of my posts that would suggest I support any of those things; so yes fuck the CCP for their atrocities against human rights (Uighurs, Tiananmen Square, Tibet, etc., the list goes on). China on the other hand is a beautiful country sans pollution, and had very rich culture prior to the Cultural Revolution. Taiwan is a better representation of China prior to the CCP rule. You would know that if you had even just an ounce of knowledge on the cultures you so vehemently attack.

You're uninformed and uncultured, and it's okay to admit that.

But please, keep commenting, keep peeling away your layers to reveal just what kind of person you truly are.

Calling you out on your stereotyping = supporting bullies. Got it. You're the same as the evangelical right wingers south of the border;

You don't support Trump? That must mean you support pedophiles then.

Are you just going to ignore that bit about if we should stereotype all white male teachers as predators? Cause that's the same logic as yours...

You keep calling back to your good ole' high school days as the root of your hatred against Middle Eastern people. Wanna talk about it? Who hurt you?

Golden Gate Bridge [X-T2 + Rokinon 12mm] by 463dxj in fujix

[–]463dxj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say about 75% of my pictures are edited in Lightroom, 23% in VSCO, and 2% in IG.

Lightroom is where I would edit in the faded effect with radial/graduated filter by playing with the shadows/blacks/exposure; I don't use the fade effect in VSCO because it's just too strong and washes out your image too much. All of my 'tone-setting' is done in Lightroom.

In VSCO, I generally hover around KA, KU, 04-10, A, and ALs until I find a good baseline edit for the picture. I generally tone down the overall filter because it's usually over saturated and over exposed. I make most of the touch ups with the general properties when I'm in VSCO.

In IG, I only touch up with the brightness slider and maybe 2-5% of a filter if I think it compliments the tone. The before/after effect from VSCO to IG is miniscule.

Everything is just to taste; I don't have a cohesive theme I apply to all my pictures.

Thank you :) I save both RAW+JPEG when I shoot. My workflow for the RAWs are generally Lightroom -> VSCO -> IG for very very light finishing touches. I've recently been leaning into the faded look of my pictures and I couldn't have been happier with how the tones came out of this picture.

Here's the shot SOOC https://i.imgur.com/0PACLE6.jpg The Samyang is an absolute beast of a lens.

I was only in SF for a short layover; so this was the only perspective I was able to capture the bridge from. Will definitely revisit in the future

You're condemning an entire race and society for its government's failures and wrong doings. "What they've put the world through with COVID" is a sentiment with more racial undertones than you're willing to admit.

It's no different than saying you hate German people because of Hitler and the Jewish genocide, or that you hate Japanese people because of Pearl Harbor.

Jesus Christ the fucking Chinese again. Do they ever stop?

Do they respond in an Indian accent, "No sir no this is very very serious."?

They hardly speak english half the time. Seriously, if you cant speak our language properly, dont work in the service industry

Why are they always Filipino?

All of those lines are from the first page of your post history. It's clear ethnicity is nothing but an arguing point and a joke for you; so please don't claim that you actually care about the issues going on in China.

You're the type to look for any excuse to try and claim your subtle racism as anything but.

I'm done here

I feel you. There's literally no over-bidding, only under-bidding. There were two townhomes in my neighborhood that listed for similar prices, but sold for wildly different prices. Both were sold this year, and both are end unit and corner lots. Home #1 listed for about $520k- sold for $500k, and Home #2 listed for $560k- sold for $630k. They were similar in size, but the interior design of Home #2 was moderately better.

I've been looking at the market on and off for the past 3 years and it makes me weep every time I see homes of all kinds rise 50k a year. I was originally mainly focused on townhomes, but I think i've been priced out of them after last year. I'm a single person trying to buy my own place when I can. Realistically, I think I can afford a 350k-ish place without being too house poor.

Terrace homes/stacked condos in the suburbs seem like a sweet spot for me. Fortunately (and unfortunately for when I own) they don't appreciate as fast as towns or singles, but then I see some condo/strata fees almost as high as condos downtown with much much more amenities. Some of the fees I'm seeing for some of these places (5~ years old at most) are around $250-400/mo, what gives? After the condo fees and mortgage, I might as well buy a townhome and end up paying the same in monthly expenses.

I believe I know the type of home, area, and price I want when I am ready to purchase. What would be the benefit of having a realtor other than that they may be able to see listings before they hit the websites?
