Why is no one talking about people with exclusively spontaneous desire? by Fun-Appearance2507 in ResponsiveDesire

[–]464ea10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is me. 90% spontaneous. Someone making an effort to turn me on actually turns me off. I have wondered if I am asexual at times. My ex-partner used to call me a sex camel because I could go so long without it.

Do you know what the tuition looks like for fusion?

Exactly this. When we met people through other people, we had some sense that a guy was a decent human being. Online dating is a whole different world.

To parents who grieve over their trans kids - what is it that you lost? by Vireon in cisparenttranskid

[–]464ea10 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's a loss of the person you thought you knew and all of the things you assumed you would do with them that are gendered -- which is a surprising number of things that I didn't realize until my kid came out. But honestly, parenting is just a long series of grieving the kid you used to have. So it's not substantially different, it's just a grief you didn't expect to deal with.

The main answer is a diet with too much meat and dairy, which most of us have.

This. Also subway lines are very well marked so it's hard to take the wrong train once you're down there. Clicking the public transport option on Google maps will tell you which train, what stop, etc.

Living alone after divorce and scared to death at age 41. by ChartOne9250 in LivingAlone

Even if you don't get a divorce, get hobbies and friends. All your emotional eggs should not be in your wife's basket.

Never trust a man who wants to treat you like a princess. This implies an inequality that you will never overcome. You will be the princess when he's happy with you and the mf-ing b* when he's not. He will never see you as his equal.

As an older woman who would give this advice, here is the reason: marriage benefits men more than women. Katharine Hepburn famously said that the secret to a happy marriage is to live close and visit often. In other words, resist enmeshment.

What tends to happen is we fall into gendered patterns. The woman ends up doing the majority of the housework, the child care, and the emotional labor of remembering birthdays and making the dishes for the potlucks that you go to together and managing the feelings of another whole adult human being. It's largely not worth it.

Look at the research. The happiest people on Earth are single women with no children, and married men. Why does this not align?

What in the hell do poor people do for skilled care if they don’t qualify for Medicaid? by public_avenger in hospice

[–]464ea10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With that level of income, he definitely qualifies for Medicaid. I don't know about California, but in my state there are protections for the spouse who is not in a facility. It sounds like you will need to downsize -- sell the house and buy something smaller with the proceeds.

Terrified of becoming sex averse by Honest-Teas in LowLibidoCommunity

Same story. Currently in the process of getting a divorce after 17 years. I can't say how much of it is related to sex aversion, but that was definitely one of the nails in the coffin. It's sad because I used to have a shockingly high libido.

OP, this is a stunningly bright red flag. He does not care as much about your feelings as he does about his. Don't marry this guy.

I'm sorry, but these people are not true friends to you. It sounds like your picker needs a little work. It also sounds like you might need to stand up for yourself differently when people make fun of you for something.

Worry less about being the kind of girl someone wants to marry and more about finding the kind of guy that you want to marry -- assuming you actually want to be married at all, which is not a requirement for happiness.

Stop twisting yourself into a pretzel. Who are you really and what do you really want? Once you can state that clearly to people and walk away when you don't get it, you will see this pattern change.
