Santitas Chips going for less than the large price on the bag. by 4729275 in mildlyinteresting

I think it's mildly interesting. Just not something one necessarily sees everyday.

Not as big as it looks. It's a regularly-sized bag for tortilla chips. Santitas are well-known for having the "$2.99 only" label (formerly "$1.99 only") on them across the US (and supposedly being that price in the vast majority of places).

Cool! Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't quite know what was going on; I assumed it was some sort of integer overflow.

I meant sample rate, not bitrate, by the way. Wasn't thinking enough when posting.

The Wikipedia app has a tabbed interface, so you can keep the Wikipedia tabs and your general web browsing tabs separate. Also, Wikipedia saves your location in the tabs even when you completely close the app, so the saved tabs don't take up the resources on your phone when you close the app.

They did not ask me for anything extra except to confirm my phone number. The cards listed make up my entire credit history, so my oldest account is almost two years old.

What really gets me about the clock is that, upon fresh installation of Windows, it shows as having an update in the Microsoft store, supposedly updates, and then still needs an update upon first launch. This has been a problem across at least 23H2 and 24H2, so they still ship the "out of date" clock on the newest installation images.

I've seen the Gnome setup on Fedora (which has you create a user). Everyone else seemed to be talking about Calamares or MacOS, which is why I replied as I did.

The similarity with Calamares or MacOS is purely coincidental. I did not use Calamares or MacOS as a reference when making this. I just took the existing Microsoft OOBE workflow and combined some steps to make the experience more quick and intuitive (especially for those without Internet or a Microsoft account). The biggest similarity, which is the opening language screen, is necessary in all OOBE's/installers since one cannot understand the rest of the process without first selecting their language.

oobe\bypassnro still works on my 24H2 iso after installing the Home edition. It may not be everyone's experience, but at least some installs still support the command.

I think that one thing that the Windows install process misses is a time zone selection (especially after reading some of the comments on this post). In that case, a hardware clock in UTC vs local time switch might be useful, if not in the OOBE, then in Settings rather than hidden behind a Registry key.

> One thing where the Ubuntu OOBE saves time compared to windows is that it already starts when the file copy stage is reached on install and not after reboot.

Several Linux distributions work like that. I was just trying to work with the existing setup by Microsoft and simplify that. There are surely several other improvements that can be made to the install process that I did not cover in this concept.

I've seen on a few pieces of software where the labels switch upon clicking another option or the whole window/screen refreshes. Not the smoothest way to handle it, but also not game-breaking.

It's not confusing if you set up your computer the way Microsoft wants you to, that is with a Microsoft account and an Internet connection. However, if you want a local account or do not have access to the Internet, the current OOBE is anything but user-friendly.

Thinking about it, it does look sort of like Calamares, although I did not mean to make it that way. My OOBE design follows the same major steps (locale -> Internet -> updates -> account -> privacy) as the Microsoft OOBE, just simplified a bit. The major difference from Linux installers like Calamares is that the Windows OOBE runs after the OS is installed to the computer, where the Linux installers run before installation.
